Escort scene in Puerto Vallarta?

I'm taking a trip to Puerto Vallarta for the first time in Sept. Since it's such a popular gay beach destination, I thought some of you might know about the escort scene there. Last year in Costa Rica the "straight" boys on the beach made some surprising offers, but Mexico is a different country. Don't want to take any big risks in a strange country. Thanks for any advice.

Maybe was just my impression, but a good lot of Mexican guys have sex with men. Many won't consider themselves gay, or even bi. However, they will top a guy, or get sucked off by one. Don't plan on lots of interaction or affection. They feel if doing a a sex role that a man would do with a women, they aren't gay. Along the same line of thought, many of these guys like drag queens or effeminate men.

 

Oh, and this is all before money is even an issue for either side.

 

If you have cash, more things are possible. Once at a large party in Hildago a cute, younger guy chatted all night with me. He was married with two kids, and drove a taxi. At the end of the night he offered to drive me back to my hotel. Once we arrived he said the fare was equivelant of usd $3.00, but for $40.00 more he can spend some time with me in the hotel room. I had too much tequila, I was seeing double, but I had the good sense to decline.

 

In all cases, stash your wallet and money in a safe. And, don't accept a drink in an open container (opened beer bottle) lacing drinks is known to happen.

 

In larger cities there are more gay men as we know in the USA. Comfortable being gay, no strict roles in sex. They are nicknamed "internaccionales" or internationals -- guys without "borders".

A few observations:

 

--Most hotels, other than those that are gay or gay-friendly, will not allow native Mexicans up into your room.

 

--Heed the advice about your cash and your wallet.

 

--It's better in the resort area, but Mexican police are very corrupt and even the poorest American traveller is wealthy by their standards. If they entrap you in any way, guilty or not, be very fearful, very fearful. If you're lucky, they'll just ransome your freedom.

 

--Watch out for stray taxis. Your best bet is to take one from a hotel stand, even when you have to go out of your way to do so.

 

Mexico can be a great deal of fun and the people there are very friendly. I have met very nice young men, who for $50 or so not only provided great pleasure, but were genuinely warm and charming, but never forget you are in the third world, in a culture where life is very cheap. You must always be cautious and have your "radar" on high.
