Ali Gator Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Late this afternoon, producers of the struggling 'Dead Outlaw' announced it will be closing June 29. When it closes, it will have played 14 previews and 73 regular performances. Three weeks ago, the open-ended musical was nominated for 7 Tonys, including 'Best Musical' and 'Best Lead Actor' in a musical. It left the theater empty-handed. After the Awards ceremony, it continued to struggle at the box office. That's 3 original, open-ended musicals which announced closing notices less than a month after the Tonys. All eyes are now on 'Boop' which is also expected to announce a closing notice sooner rather than later.
MaybeMaybeNot Posted June 23 Posted June 23 The "Dead Outlaw" Tonys performance felt like they were trying to get people to beg for refunds. ShortCutie7 1
skynyc Posted June 25 Posted June 25 It was a fun show, and I love Dave Yazbeck in general. No formulas in his writing. This wasn't my favorite and honestly, had it stayed off-Broadway, I think it might have developed a real following. But hard to recommend in a season so packed with more traditional fare. And honestly, you're right about the Tony song, ending with the "Your mama's dead...And so are you!" song wasn't the best choice. MaybeMaybeNot 1
ShortCutie7 Posted June 26 Posted June 26 I’m a big Yazbek fan and had been excited to eventually see this… sadly the Tony performance did it no favors and actually made me LOSE interest in seeing the show. MaybeMaybeNot 1
