TonyDown Posted May 20, 2025 Posted May 20, 2025 (edited) The reviews sound impressive. I'm looking forward to this one though I worry it will be another gay film that connects with the critics (like Call Me By Your Name) but disappoints me. https://www.unilad.com/film-and-tv/news/alexander-skarsgrd-harry-melling-harry-potter-pillion-xrated-movie-558558-20240509 Edited May 20, 2025 by TonyDown Rod Hagen, Danny-Darko and marylander1940 2 1

It disappointed you, but it's not a disappointing film objectively, such as say Godfather 3. In other words, the acting, cast, writing, source material, and setting do not fall short of the talent and potential. However, there are other reasoned reasons to dislike the film: ......Very sorry, I was going to link to a Wesley Morris article I THOUGHT I remembered where he was critical of it, but I can't find it. My memory was the criticisms that seemed most serious at the time, had more to do with it being "another movie about young white people struggling with sexuality", which is usually a fair criticism and I agree that Plot needed to stop being a thing in movies LONG ago, but in this case, it's so well-made, that that standard jab is weak. All this goes a long way, also nowhere, to my question, "what did you (wrongly :-) ) find disappointing about the film?" Edited May 21, 2025 by Rod Hagen Danny-Darko 1

pleasureseeker Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 I thought it was an excellent film. Not my cup of tea because I am probably too much of a romantic to relate to the characters in that subculture, but that film has great integrity with an excellent script and an amazing cast. The sex scenes are well made. To me, the greatest achievement of the film is that it succeeded in making me connect to characters I truly do not understand - people who want to be in a sub/dom relationship, not just role playing for an evening, but as a way of life - I so don't get that and yet I was drawn in and never felt judgemental of any of them. I also enjoyed the subtle humor placed in all the right moments. It is very slow paced but watching A. Skarsgard is such a pleasure that it helps accepting that pace.
