seattlebottom Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 His brother, Modest, who was also gay, wrote an unpublished biography of the composer. Letters, reminisces and diary excerpts were all used in the writing of the book. Most of the information about Tchaikovsky's gay life were in that book. thomas, CastaDiva, + ApexNomad and 2 others 2 3

I thought his homosexuality was common knowledge… I couldn’t imagine what life was like for him in 19th century Russia living as a closeted gay man. He even married a woman, (which ended in divorce) to cover up rumors of his sexuality. His music which can be expressively sad and depressing reflect his personal struggles of having to hide his sexuality and mental anguish. CastaDiva and thomas 2
TonyDown Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 His 4th symphony 1st movement "considered one of the most arresting and dramatic openings in all of symphonic literature.". At the very least he was a symphonic drama queen. thomas and pubic_assistance 2

TonyDown Posted January 29 Posted January 29 (edited) Imagine how such a creative master felt compelled to marry a woman. Here is Alexei Sultanov playing Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1. https://youtu.be/3IeZJ_0hmZU?si=wdAbnpp9sbZJFQU7 Edited January 29 by TonyDown thomas 1
