mike carey Posted 36 minutes ago Posted 36 minutes ago Off-topic but related. During the pandemic after the Australian Government closed our borders, Qantas cancelled all international tickets issued. They issued a travel credit for the ticket I had bought to travel to the Palm Springs gathering in 2020, a not inconsiderable amount of money (for me, at least). Initially they indicated that it would carry the usual conditions, that it had to be used within 12 months and all on one ticket purchase. Given the uncertainly about when international travel would resume, this was a matter of some controversy at the time, and a not insignificant amount of anger at the airline. Eventually, they relented, removed both the time limit and the restriction on how the credit could be drawn down, and I used it to buy my ticket to the 2023 event. So I had my money back and the for me issue was closed. After that a class action was launched against Qantas for its handling of the matter and a settlement has been reached under which Qantas will pay, without admitting liability, $AU105m between passengers who had been affected. I ignored the notifications I received as I had recovered my money, but they kept coming and were explicit is stating the settlement was available to all affected passengers whether or not they had been paid the money owed, with a minimum settlement of $AU50. Soooo, I've submitted my claim to the law firm, and await the outcome.
