TonyDown Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 (edited) Operawire.com reported LA Opera scrapped their plan to premier The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay due to financial challenges. The ambitious production became too expensive. I'm sad to hear this. Anyone that has read the Micheal Chabon novel might not be surprised. Quite an epic, complicated story. sutherland Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 Opera has always been financially challenging, even in the times of Verdi and Puccini when composers still gave the audiences hummable tunes. The era of Haydn being supported by Prince Esterhazy and Wager supported by King Ludwig of Bavaria had some merit + Charlie and Marc in Calif 2

Sorry, I couldn't resist. ☺️ + Charlie 1
sutherland Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 Marc in Calif - that is too clever for me to take offense + Charlie, mike carey and Marc in Calif 2 1
+ Just Sayin Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 I tried to read Chabon's novel years ago, but it somehow didn't click with me
