Secret phone numbers

I have noticed that many escorts on gaydar.co.uk state that they will

not respond to/anwer "secret numbers" / withheld phone numbers.

I tested the trade and made "secret number" calls to ten guys that had this type of restriction in their ads.

One had an answering message that stated that he was either busy or that my number was secret, so he could not take the call. All other 9 took my call willingly with no comment about my secret number.

If I call from abroad it is common that the number is not shown in UK, so what is the idea about really?

There was a very recent thread here on this very subject. Scroll back a few days and look at the subjects and you should easily find it.

 

The short answer, I believe, is that some escorts attempt to screen out bogus or potentially troublesome callers by insisting that the caller phones from a line that allows its number to be displayed.

I agree with guyinsf that this is usually practiced only in an attempt to guard oneself from potentially troublesome callers. I accept calls from any area code though I never answer "unknown" or "number withheld" callers because typically those calls have turned out to be heavy breathers, minor stalkers, and in your case- curious antagonists "testing" my policy.

 

I don't happen to live in the UK however so you aren't likely to waste your weekday minutes on me. lol

If YOU escorts think that by ONLY accepting unblocked numbers, that you are going to ONLY receive calls from serious, sane and business-like clients, then I would urge you to think again.

 

If YOU escorts think that those of us clients, myself included, that do NOT unblock their numbers and might even use his cellphone to initiate a call, aren't serious, then once again, I would ask you to reconsider.

I'm always amused when an escort's profile says "if the first thing you ask is "how much?", I won't answer...

 

When I'm interested in meeting someone, I've generally found the answers to most of my questions (age, height, weight, location, etc.) before even contacting the person. Other than rate, time, availability and, sometimes, a very few other questions, there is little more I need or want to know from an initial contact.

 

If the guy isn't available at the time I want to get together or if the rate isn't acceptable, I don't need any more information and don't need to waste his or my time with small talk. On the other hand, if he is available and the rate is fine, then that's the time to discuss any further details, at least in my opinion.

I have hiring escorts for over 8 years an I never blocked my number calling them. Whats the point in doing that? Once I got a new cellphone an the number was block automatically the escort I called was nice about it an told me how to unblock it. I did we set a date an it was great. Virtually all escorts in the UK use a mobile (cell) phone which you can identify as the numbers start "07" (some starting "070" are portable numbers which redirect to either a mobile or land line). Many escorts use "Pay as You Go" types, which are available here from about $55, for business use as they cost virtually nothing to run. Incoming calls are not charged for when used within the UK. Most companies' call credits last indefinitely or you may have to top them up once a year or so.

 

The displays may show different data between service providers but virtually all show either the calling number if from the UK, "number withheld" if the caller has made a "secret" call or "unknown number". This last can be generated by an overseas call or from a hotel/company switchboard so escorts are likely to pick these up. If you look carefully most specify they will not respond to WITHHELD numbers.

 

Incidentally, if you have a triband GSM cellphone, you can also get "SIM" cards to give you a UK number while you are here for about $19 - which includes a small call credit that you can top up. Using that for local calls and pre-paid cards for international calls works out a lot cheaper than using a hotel telephone if you make a lot of calls or travel here often.
