Apologies in advance if this has already been asked and answered.  On the home page, to the right of each topic is an indication of the last time someone posted on that topic.  This is not true for the public and private gallery threads.  Any reason for this?

It's because those are not forums.  They're external links to different applications.  

I put the links there to make it easier for people to find the gallery application (so that it is not just in the main navigation menu).
