I just returned today from a 3 day stay in hospital to have a large hernia repaired. No big deal, but very sore tummy.

All the nurses I had were highly professional, cheerful and very helpful. But they were all about 6 years short of retirement and reminded me of my mother - gentle souls all.

But......... whatever happened to the hot cute male nurses that could send your blood pressure over the top by just entering your room? And by putting a catheter in was better than a marriage proposal. Are they gone forever?

You need to arrange your hospital stays in Palm Springs and vicinity. When I was in Eisenhower Medical Center two years ago, I had the most stunning young man as the charge nurse during the day. :p :9 I did not want to leave! :D I was subsequently told that ALL the nurses there who were male were on our side. }(

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the queen of denial.

Oliver makes it seem like he knew what to do with the cutest male nurse in the Coachella valley. In fact, he did not develop ONE SINGLE BEDSORE requiring a good massage.

Honestly sometimes you have to lead this guy by the hand. :+

I spent 3 days in the hospital a year and a half ago and found the nurses to be, without exception, wonderful. Maybe it helped that my operation was at a teaching hospital. What you give up in privacy you gain in attention and enthusiasm. This applies to the doctors and nurses.

At a teaching hospital, it isn't just your doctor that visits you the next morning at your bedside after your operation. In my case, there were nine of so young doctors-in-training along with my surgeon, all gathered around my bed and smiling down at me. Not a time for stage fright!

As for the nurses, I had two shifts per day, they work 12 hours four days on and three days off. As a result, I met a variety of nurses as some were going off on their 3 day break and others coming on new. I had nurses (all female) from students at the local university to women with 30 years' experience. All were pleasant and helpful (I was pleasant in return).

It helps to be positive, nobody wants a grouch, even if you're in pain. Just suck it in. Besides they do have wonderful pain killers!

Three nurses I remember, one who gave me backrubs twice at night before sleeping (I luv backrubs), the second a young student from Korea for her enthusiasm, and the old pro who helped me with the checking-out procedures by cutting all the red tape.

As far as I am concerned, nurses of whatever sex are a special breed and we are the richer for having them at our bedsides when we are rendered helpless. :)
