Nevada poised to allow college athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness | Nevada Current

Op note: College sports is in the midst of potentially major changes in a years. Now a days all parts involved: athletes, the NCAA, state legislators and members of Congress have all proposed new rules that would provide student athletes with varying degrees of new protections and opportunities to make money by selling their name, image and likeness (NIL) rights while playing in college. How come they can't make money off twitter and other social media apps now?

Yes they should be able to profit. The majority of guys won't be successful at the pro level and college might be the only time they have a chance to make money off themselves.

I think of some of the athletes that compete in "Olympic" sports such as swimming, track, wrestling, etc.  and the relatively short window of opportunity compared to athletes competing in higher-profile sports such as football and basketball.  For those individuals graduation (or the next Olympics) is often the end of their competitive careers and the opportunity to ink an endorsement deal is gone.

Athletes are just people, interact with non athletes on campus  in classes. I was in sophomore English class with Boston College football player Jim McGowan in 1962-1963

However, the additional money may be a problem. I am concerned and rightly so. Many students just barely get by financially, @marylander1940
