This past weekend was the Stonewall Street Festival in Fort Lauderdale. Showers occasionally dampened the occasion, but Sunday afternoon was very nice and a large crowd of mostly gay and lesbian men and women enjoyed the occasion. Wilton Drive was closed from Five Corners on the northeast to Tropics at the southwest. Tents of various sizes were lined up along the center. Four very large tents accommodated a dozen tables each along the sides and plenty of space, shaded from the sun and protected from the rain (at times). Smaller tents and booths featured all kinds of products and activities. There were also several tents with stages for entertainment and protection from sun and rain. You could always find a place to sit and rest and chat.

Free samples of all kinds were available, including nice bags from The Gables, the new very large complex about to be built on Wilton Drive east of Tropics. There was voter registration, free samples from the fondue restaurant and Starbucks, information about Barack Obama, opportunity to sign up to work at the polls, animal shelter appeals, vintage autos, gay vacations, food and drink stands of various kinds were all along the route, and many other booths of every kind.

George's "Alibi" added a tent to its outside eating area to accommodate even more people. The bars all along Wilton Drive did well. The new condos were all holding open houses, and I got to see the beautiful places still available at the Lofts.

Lots of people walked up and down Wilton Drive, including most gym bunnies shirtless. In addition there were a couple dozen very cute twinks in black speedos walking or roller blading around and handing out free coupons and brochures. A bar/nightclub about-to-open, "The Living Room," had several very cute twinks in speedos posing for pictures. Many gay and lesbian couples were walking their dogs, which all seemed to get along fine.

Yesterday was a very pleasant opportunity to get some exercise on a warm summer day in Fort Lauderdale and to see and meet other members of the GLBT community in Fort Lauderdale. I hope they repeat this experiment next year; it was well worth it.

I wouldn't call ourselves "bunnies" (although Derek does fuck like a jackrabbit) but we did our share of shirtless shlepping in the rain shower yesterday. :p

The gays all got along? The lesbians? The dogs? The gays and the lesbians? The dogs and the lesbians?
