Whe I was 18 years old, i was studying in Rome, Italy and I was just beginning to explore my sexuality. I was CURIOUS :) about how things work for men/boys (?) like me. I often experimented and tried to get answers to my questions. I was a very observant fellow!

One night, wandering by Via Veneto, I chance upon a very discretely located entrance to a club, called the St James Club. I sa the admission was stiff -- $1,500 Lire ( I could have dinner in a nice tratorria with that money!-- so I turned my back and went home. I vividly remember the signage...it said Club Prive! I do speak french and understood what it mean...but what the heck is a Club Prive?

For sometime, I forgot about the club and my curiosity of its existence.

A visiting diplomat came to town and was introduced to me one day.

We met, had dinner and we bonded. he was erudite, charming, middle-aged, married and quite l'homme du monde denizen character that he impressed me at the time -- good neough to make me his concubine.

I was attracted to him (of course, I sometimes would have money problems as a student *wink* ( No, I refuse to post this in the deli!)

He became my constant adviser and mentor (yeah MENTOR!-- any questions?) Lol!

One summer night, he asked me if I had been to Rome's most famous club Prive for gentlepeople (note! not men) of leisure and stature. I guess , I might have answered, "of course!" and he said, "ok, lets go to St James after dinner! The name did not ring a bell, but when we were in front of the dimly light yellow canopied entrance -- I remember it well and excitement rushed back in me.

He led the way in... and was waved inside by the concierege. Sleek, I said to myself! The entrance led to an underground stairwell. on the left side was the bar; on the right side was adancing room...replete with nicely leather upholstered chairs and neatly place tables and boots. I could sense the St James was a very expensive place to be.

Point in fact? At that time, I have never seen so many champagne bottles nesting in wine coolers...resting on a bar... just for a person or at the most for two persons. I was so excited! So this is what St James is like! (Note the champagen bottles is usually a come on to a patrons delightful offer of "vuoi un champagna?" to any one who passes by and caught their fancy!

My friend asked me if I want to sit in a corner table. I asked him to reconsider and sit at the corner of the bar!

There were two bar stools, waiting to be occupied. He said yes. As we passed by, I was introduced to a commendatore, several dottore laureatis meaning university graduates, carrying the distinct title of doctor of something!... inginiere, signori, and several fashion Icons.

I do remember a German actor, whose name, rhymes with Burger. He was busy being the center of attraction by the adoring men in the bar. He is very much like his Dorian Gray character I bemused.

My friend and I kept being interrupted by men, boys! Believe it or not these very good looking men/boys in blue blazers and suits were reminiscent of l'Uomo Vogue models.

I was awe struck.

Later I found out they were marchettari (escorts! putting it mildly very expensive companions, with very expensive tastes! for people of discerning needs! :)

Nino, the chief bartender and partner of the bar was a handsome Neapolitan. Tanned, mediterrenean good looking padrone di casa. I think he was bisexual although he was married with kids. I knew he liked me, coz he kept giving me free champage flutes of Dom Perignon :) (yes boys, I was young, well dressed, looked so wide-eyed innocent as a man/boy and my body languages invited people -- (to)sin with me!)

We stayed till 3:00 in the morning. That experience led me to understand the woerkings of a Club Prive. Of tangent remark... The denizens of the club would always gather at a pasticerria after the bar close for three more hours in the center of Rome...continuing where they left off, when the bar closed. of course Nino, always offers me a cappucciono and a brioche, when he sees me *wink* Unfortunately, I never do married men! Now I wish I do!

I saw Chritian Democrats and socialists and communist leaders mixing with each other with complete ease -- no politics etc! I saw older men, savvy and well spoken with their command of english, french, spanish, german and italian, seduce young men and maybe boys (18 +) into a very engaging conversation. I was a witness to expensive gigolos, exchanging banters with doctors and priest... yes...priest..monsignori and maybe a purple suited priest too (who cares?) Money was not object! I have heard of fancy names for cocktails and drinks, seen enough brands of cigarrettes that Nino and his staff will produce in a flick of a finger. My brand at that time was Dunhill Reds or the St Moritz. That was the first year I smoked.

Whenever I reached for a cigarrette, I would hear clicks from Dunhill, Ronson lighters all over the bar.

The first night I went to St James, I had fun. I must come back to this place. But the sign said for members only!

Sadly, I turned to my friend . And asked him how I can be a member! "caro mio, voresti essere un socio? do you like to be a member!" I remember him asking me.

I meekly said, "Yes, but I dont know how I can be a member...you guys are all so far from my league...I am a student but you guys are...!"

I remember the laughter and he motioned to Nino.

Nino looked at me, smiled and spoke to me in his suaviest thick iitalian laden english! "Caro Macho...da oggi en poi, tu sei un socio...vieni quando vuoi, Noi, ti aspettiamo!" I can go back anytime, theyhe expect me to return as a member!

:) wow! I was so happy!

I went to the St James every weekend and maybe once in a while during school days, when I was bored...sad...happy or I have friends dropping by-- or for any reason, i can think of to spend 5,oo lire for drinks (thats 2 drinks for your info!) Of course, I have more drinks courtesy of Nino and my friends *wink*

I met a lot of characters in the club.

I remember the bicthy blonde, good looking effeminate, orphan-part-time-hustler-showboy, nicknamed la Raffaela Carra. She (heheheheheh) was the epitome of a bitch! A cut throat commentator. I remember he (she?) would always get into fights with people...but I also remember, his bitchiness gave character to the club! he(she?) has equally bitchy friends from the city. Oh my, when they talk, everyone listens, not because the discussion is exciting, but because they were loud. This usually takes a few minutes and the habitues of the club just shrugged their shoulders and go back to mind their business...discussing Valentinos recent fashion show color scheme, to whether the newly elected pope is good for the church...to who is that new young man who Conte so and so has in tow? ...to did you hear marchesse or Duke so and so is...was..or what not?

I heard which bank was good and bad. I remember being told not to do this and that with checks. In short, I learned... had fun and really felt I belong!

The place was a very discrete hustler bar too... introductions are very chic as the days expressionw was! Phrases like ,"Caro Antonio, ti voglio presentare un caro amico d Australia, Max!" Max was gorgeous. He was a neo-escort! The presentor or middle man was a well known pimp, an Italian national originally from a country called Yugoslavia I ithink his name was Sergio :).

He has a stable of boys and men , mostly from the south.Sergio was like a processing company. From raw...country boys...he turns the burrinis into delightful delicate or macho type companions! he drove a BMW at that time.

I also remember a character named Emilio, he was a hairdresser, who has a friend from Austria, a resident of Rome, who was catty, yet well liked by the frequent comers. His remarks are cutting and very distinct...ranging from "come sei brutta stasera! How ugly you look tonight to touching your shirt and asking, " Porta Portese? Did you get it from the Porta Portese flea market?"

I hated them...eventually, I became close to them because I took it upon myself to be more open -- I opened the door to friendship. In the end, they became two of my confidantes. And oh yeah, la carra, became my girl Friday, when I took her in from the boarding house to my flat. Today, I still connect with him/her!

Club Prive- a private place where you can let your hair down...hear interesting news and topics..be exposed to catty, bitchy remarks by unbelievable characters, who you tend to have a love/hate relationship --Whom you miss if their presence is not made known for a while.

Club Prive... a place where the police might come every now and then ...asking for "documenti" and stupid questions , like what the hell a young non Italian boy was dong there! Simply because they are the law I reckon they would raid the place with abandon, especially if Nino forget to send the envelope *wink*

I recall the bar/club during those raids, turned to be a very sedate, atmosphere full of muffled sounds of disgusts and questions like,"dont they have better things to do than raid this place? who do they think we are!", commented many distinguished patrons.

At times, many policemen will turn around when they noticed or see a well place powerful soceity figure with a mumbble, "Buona sera Signore distinguished citize. we are just checking to see, if anyone bothers the members!" and the patron, will almost always say nothing.

A smile...a raised eyebrow or a shoulder usually puts the police on their way to the door!

Carnivale is a fun night. I have seen many Diana Ross, Chers, Mina (the Italian songstress) Raffaela Carra and Renato Zero to the Supremes to handsome escorts, dressed as vampires, flashers, gladiators and strippers. I have seen politicians dressed ala Giulianni (hmmmmhe is italian right) in the latest fashion, with blonde or red head wigs. Salons are crowded with big spenders that dau before 8:00 pm.

The total point? Who has the best character...costume...hottest rendition of la carnivale!

I remember I dressed up as a sexy, man eater one carnivale night... I was propositioned many times on my way to the club, while I sashayed in Via veneto..gawkers followed me, with comments of "bella, hmmmm dove vai! stai qui!" Hey Beautiful, where are you going. stay with me!

I felt so beautiful, my boobs are so well placed, teen boys approached me and asked to suck me or rim me *wink* lol..Of course I managed to give the best looking Italian boys and men a chance to vedere e liccare il mio cullo! (You think you know life!)

The piece de la resistance that same night: the handsome "fabio testi like" Italian carabinierri, who patrols the place every night, asked me for my address and told me to wait for him after his tour of duty!

When I told dhim I lived in Parioli. I remember he looked at me, and say, " sei ricco?"

"No caro, just smart," was my answer. The tryst at 3:00 a.m. was intense...to die for...I asked him to have sex with me while he was in his top uniform, gun by the side of the bed...and I played TOP!* wink*

After that night, I often saw see him nightly and he would smile and wink at me.

Darn, he was stright, so he says and would never play again. *sigh* Oh well..what matters is..I had fun on carnivale!

I remember one time, I was one of the new members of the forum, Hooboy and I conferred about the escort I have the hots for by e-mail . He did like the escort too!

We have the same taste in men ! (Foxy? are you listening?) But the notion of the forum as a club prive never came up.

A couple of nights ago, I received a strange call from a number with has a 206 area code. I dodnt know of anyone in the Seattle area.

Maybe an escort coming to Chi-Town. Oh well, I answered -- it was Daddy! yes the "Daddy!" He was giving me back my handle..I will again be a charter member... a request I begged to him in an e-mail. I relise the title of charter member is like having been introduced to the St James Club prive by the diplomat -- a distinct priviledge! I want it back and I feel sorry i left -- Thanks to NCM and his post about Minneapolis private stock...I decided to come back!

Daddy and I spoke for over an hour. We lost track of time. I told him the reason why I left...why I dislike some posters..why so and so entertains me..how so and so has e-mailed me...and how so and so became close to me...and how so and so is so different from his poster persona...how so and so tells a story that is revealing, fun and exciting. His comment, "Hooboy has a notion when he started the site. and he added, "he dreams of a site, where people would gather akin to a club prive! :)

And I never knew that! :) So that is the main idea for the forum!

I promised him I will be a positive contributor to the forum, and I will be more of the young man that I was -- accepting of all the characters in the forum!

His response at one time or the other was, "Most of the Bitches have gone...and maybe it would turn the forum to a cyber space it was intend to by Hooboy -- a Club Prive, where escorts, senior citizens, young men and maybe women (they hire escorts dont they?) could exchange ideas, banters, stories, issues, problems, etc to a level, where everyone feels satisfaction that he is surrounded by friedns: cyber or otherwise." Noble thought I said to myself!

This thread is just a general revelation of my thoughts on the forum... using my thoughs as a processing revelation. I did not intend to brag or what not. I just am a very colorful narrator.

Please feel free to post your thoughts! I promise not to sound like what one poster called me before, " a one side school marm, who castigates! " :)

Thank you.

P.S.

I now realised this is a long post. so I decided not to edit it or proof read it. Enjoy my bible system way of typing. I have mixed emotions as I pressed the post message button. ok, I did edit once and that is it! :)

Cheers! yes Mark, I told you i am a charter member :)

Why would anyone want females in your vision of a Club Prive? There are other web places where they would be welcome but I think if we were to nurture their presence here it would put a damper on things.

Although I guess that there may be some here already..... but lets not promote it. x(

Welcome back, Macho888, and thanks for the fascinating recollections about Italy. :)

From what I've heard from others, scenes like you describe are long gone in Italy.

I'm told that with many Italian women now feeling free to use birth control, those hot, hot, hot, but straight Italian men are not quite so interested in playing with us anymore. :(

I met my Fratellone during those times! He is now married with kids -- and he was very protective of me!

The scene still exists! One just have to be a distinct player to attract the boys...Just make them feel the macho-ness in them and they play. i was in italy for summer last year.I may no longer be la Divina...but I had fun!

Sounds like you had a great time and I can imagine being a fun experience and what not. But I don't know if I would feel comfortable with such people especially politicians in the room. I'd probably give them more then just a piece of my mind and be 86. I'm more of the blue collar minded person and those are the ones that usually enjoy my company and vise versa.

Greg

That was the beauty of St James, Gregg, rich men, poor men, whiote collar, blue collar, politicians, religious..were very much like a Hawaiian sald; the more fruits in the mix...the better! have you tried a Hawaiian fruit salad? You must try it Greg.

Again, it is Utopic. where everyone can be themselves, be accepted by members of divergent backgrounds and beliefs; and find a common ground om many issues.

As for my dream, I will try to practice it. I may not like what you post (Honestly? I truly like and/or love all your posts) but I will let you post threads I may not like or even hate ...I will let you expound on your agenda. without fear of repercussions or bitchiness.. with the hope that all of us forum members will post within an acceptable guideline of a modicum of human decency! I will allow cattiness...bitchiness...all within bounds of acceptability--- never will i accept comments that are hurting and below the belt ( i may have succumb to the practice a while back! -- but I resolve: NEVER TO DO IT AGAIN... to make sure my CLUB PRIVE blossoms into a Paradis of sorts for all members! :)

Using my knowledge of Statistics... 6 people is not a large field. I was told...maybe I was told wrong ...that there are at least a couple of hundred posters who comes in posts...read posts...responds to postss..or lurk around...So 6 possibilities is a very small margin of betting.

I dont know How I chose you guys, I just have that feeling --- maybe, it is all gut feelings...and you know what many people say about gut feelings! :)

Just look at the handles of the first 10 posters! so far, my guesses are right on the money! :0

Maybe we have different styles of postings...but I can assure you we get attracted to the same threads! :) I believe that is a unifying statement?

I do appreciate the replies on my thread. I wish Daddy would validate what i wrote! :)

many people wonder who mark is? I know two Marks have communicated with me through e-mails. It is one of them I often refer to...as a sign of my friendship to him :)

yes I had another persona, We did not get into a good star when I came back with another handle...I read all your post, and I admit your post on the Minneapolis private stock was the trigger on my comeback.

With another nick, I admitted I misjudged your true nature and color -- I accpeted mea Culpa.

We did e-mail each other several times. I thanked you for your recommendations of possible tryst partners in your beautiful city. I told you I was thinking of Going there this summer...Unfortunately, The one type I wanted..I think his name was Shawn (?) a bottom at that has retired fronm the bizz. :)

I still will e-mail you later on, when I am sure of the date I will come and visit your beautiful city -- i hope you did not find my candor with regards to my types as a quirky rejection of your recommendation! The people you recommended are all beautiful -- just that, I am looking for the eyes of David A in them *wink* Enough clues my friend> or are you still CURIOUS?

maybe, i should also tell you the mark i often refer to here is nopt you --- it is another Mark (I wonder how many marks there are in this forum. i dont know his last name so i gave him one... CRAIG! after his favorite hunting medium! :)

Oh I do mean Crust, the unwanted edges of a pizza or a bread loaf by some people -- we are the edges...the crusts!

Elite group of crusts? Hmmmmm thats a good monicker...thanks for the idea.

Yo se, que eres un gran caballero...I know you are a great cavalier..I can feel your restraint in your posts...it does not escape me... If ever you come back to the Windy City, I would like to invite you at my new favorite Italian High Class tratorria (a contradiction of sorts :) ) dinner and wine and coffee at the nearby Starbucks will be on me!

Your thread on la abuelita moved me.I wanted to respond back -- but i will remember sad events about the popel I loved...so did not! :)

I am very glad to communicate with you Greg ( we did e-mail each other before-- i know you dont recall, but we did!)

I am sure he will break a lot of hearts---gay and female...like his dad during his his heydays --- His nick at that time was the gorgeous blonde DJ of Rome! The link shows him as the prime mover of a famous disco in Roma in the 80's Much More!

Ya know, after I've read this a few times, I am convinced that the poster is surely deranged. Whatever, he clearly uses more than one persona here.

Dontcha just LUV lurkers and game players who have waaaaay too much time on their hands? x( x(

I recently had an extended email exchange with a client - umm ... "purported" client ... who was obsessed with a Mpls escort who wouldn't see him (the client) because of the client's past behavior. The would-be client tried several ways to enlist my help, including using two different email addys and two different personas (personae?) to try to trick me into giving him some supposed entree that he perceived I had to this escort. On short notice, the escort retired, and I informed the client. Not to be deterred, the client came back to me and tried another approach. I frankly told the client to GO TO HELL. He allowed as how he'd never email me again.

I'll give ya odds ... }(

Interesting narrative. I was wondering if this Club Prive still exists and how long ago the events you described took place. I studied for a few months in Italy in the late 70s and never found any gay scene at all. I'm sure there was something going on, but as an American who was used to finding gay bars more or less out in the open, everything in Italy at that time (and most everywhere in Europe) must have been pretty underground or hidden. I guess you had to know someone who could explain the game to you.

Anyway, Europe is a lot different now, but your story is fascinating.

I don't know if he uses more than one persona at a time, but Macho888 is Curious35. He's been trying to get he's "original" screen name back ever since he started posting again. Hope that clears the mystery up for you.

Mon Cheri,

I was there for many...many...many years. As for the time line. May I aske you to look at the foto of my beloved Fratellone? Maybe it will help jog some memory! :) Hint his foto has the year!

St James was a well known open secret in Rome. It was at the very end of Via Veneto ...near the walls! :) ah, yes there was L'Alibi, Angelo Azzurro, Il mattatoio...and a host of other Club Prives.

>Anyway, Europe is a lot different now,

I find Europe blazing in experimental gay scenes these days. I go on a trip every year...exploring familial haunts. The more changes Europe underwent, the more it stays the same...I tell you what, the eastern block countries remind me of Paris, Rome, Milan and Berlin to name a few of many years ago. :) The gay scene is thriving.

but your story is fascinating.

As I reminisce, I continue to be inspired and fascinated. I had a full life as a teen on the verge of discovery... Europe was a visual buffet of free love...sex...rock and role...and yes ...more sex!

But, when I came back to the States and started hearing about the dieaease hitting San Francisco denizens...I was sleepless and perturbed for many years to come.

At a certain point in my life, I often ask, when will I pay for my fun time?

Oh well... at this point and time of my life...I have no regrets and of course...I play it safe now ...and I still enjoy the inter-action of my preferred providers of pleasure *wink* I just have to delve deeper into the pocketbooks and drop some pennies to the scholarship/fundraising causes of these young prodigies.

Oh my...I am digressing. :) Sorry :)

AHA!!!

Yep, it's all the same person and he has at least 3 personas here and 2 email addys that I know of.

Screws loose, elevators not going to the top, lights are on but nobody's home, turrets syndrome, obsessive-compulsive behavior, stalker ... take your pick to describe this space cadet or worse.

To the subject: shall I unmask you now, or will you crawl back in your hole and stop bothering us with your presumably fictitious account(s) of your life? x(

I've been around this Board for 7 years and I've seen a lot of nut cases come and go, but I think this dude really takes the cake. x( x(

P.S. To: "curious35": I do not plan to pay any more attention to your deranged personality, neither in replying to your endless emails pursuing a certain escort, nor in replying to your posts here. You are sick. Find another hobby.

Mark!

I did give you enough clues as to who i was! Nope I am not deranged...and I was serious about my desire for you to help me out w a Minneapolis escort -- I told you, The recomendees all look good, but my taste in guys is that of Shawn (?) or anyone who has the same charm as he does.

I tried to tell everyone indirectly, I wanted my charter name back..I never knew how to proceed, until i decided i will e-mail daddy! he has helped me and I am thankful :)

And Mark, I do think I understand your remarks and postings now :) No, you will not get a catfight from me...as I said in my preamble post in this thread. I envision the forum as a paradis for posters with divergent needs ... triggers... activity... way of thinking...philosphy and hot buttons, to mention a few disparities.

To be blunt, I was forced to use CURIOUS35 for a short period, until I got my old handle back. I am Macho888, Charter member and proud of it! :)

And I am telling you, please do not confuse me with an ass who gave you lame escuses to play you and your friends. In my life, i have learned to respect Mentors like you -- again, please read my opening post in this thread. :)

Oh I did not see your remark that I had a fictitious life story!!!!!! No Mark2, whatever I posted here now and before are all true...related in my very own way of recollecting my life experiences. I can assure you nothing is bogus or fictitious -- I did live a life that, looking back now, I could not believe, how good my life was then... and of course, now! :)

Thanks Marc2

>Yep, it's all the same person and he has at least 3 personas

>here and 2 email addys that I know of.

No Mark2 I have two personas as of a few days ago...I am CURIOUS35, a returning poster, wanting to get his old handle back, and a few days ago was given the privilege of posting again as a charter member -- Macho888! 2 e-mail addys? I never recall giving you my professional e-mail address :) I am sure everytone here has both a forum e-mail and a personal e-mail. I am not an exception!

No I do not have 2 e-mail accounts that I used to contact you...No I am not obsessed with one of your mentees... Perhaps, you did not understand me clearly, I would have loved to go out with Shawn, unfortunately, he is out of circulation.

I was very honest with you.I even gave you my telephone number! Think about it for a moment...would a "deranged person" as you claim, I was; do that sort of thing? I have told you privately and in this forum, that your posting on Minneapolis private stock...got me interested in the forum again. Lurker? I dont like the term...I was an observer...call me a bystander. Thanks to you. I am back!

Now, I offer you peace and I hope we can co-exists. If I am able to pin down my schedule as I envision these next coming months...I will go to your beautiful city...if you decide to help me with my choices--- I would be greatful. Again, a mentor like you deserves credit. I learned life and living from someone like you in the past!

te saludo!

You are sick. Find another hobby!

Friendship...relationship and communication with people is not a hobby! I learned it as Life and living...living the life! :)

PEACE!

I see that a lot of traffic has come to the thread...I am content! it means I perked the curiosity of the member..I wish they would speak out their mind. :)

Oh well... :) A visit is better than the thread or topic being ignored! :) I think traffic is a way to judge the success of a thread.

I was interested in reading your account of the St James club in Roma. I was there in 1979 whilst accompanying a delegation on a Food and Agriculture Conference. Early in my stay I wandered one evening looking for some gay life. It had been 10 years since I had first visited Roma as a student and I knew all the usual tourist spots but no gay ones.

I saw this fellow near the Via Veneto with a black cape on and he looked so dashing I watched him walk up to this canopied place and approach the door. He saw me looking and beckoned me over. He asked me if I was interested in going in and so I did. We talked a little and he introduced me to a few people but it wasn't very busy at first.

Later things picked up and I remember this very Italian hustler trying to pick me up. My Italian was not very good but I recognized that his repeating the word "otel" meant he wanted me to take him back to my hotel. Given the outfit he was in, white tight jeans with a huge basket and open necked shirt with lots of gold, I thought "nooooo, I don't think so...". LOL

Anyway soon I met another nice young man about my age. He was studying in Roma and soon we were an "item". I did take him back to my hotel (he was much more presentable) and we spent as much time as possible together for the next 10 days. I met a lot of his friends but it was only on the last night that he took me to this restaurant run by nuns for dinner. Over dinner he revealed that he was a priest!!!

Omiomio!! I was stunned. Anyway, we kept up a correspondence for a few years even after I had moved to Europe to take up a diplomatic posting. But I never saw him again. Years later I saw his name in the press and he had risen very high in the church and was very close to John Paul II. I was bemused. Such is life in la Roma! :p

I went to the St, James on my first visit to Rome in 1989, unfortunately, the evening that I stopped into the St. James for a drink, the place was empty. There was one young guy at the bar and he finished his drink and left leaving me alone with the bartender. Oh well, I still loved my first visit to Rome and have been back on several ocassions to enjoy all that the city has to offer. It wasn't important for me to hook up with anyone on my trip because I had such a full schedule of seeing all that Rome had to offer.
