This is a big-budget very mainstream superhero film featuring a gay couple in major roles. After reading an article that this was a breakthrough for films which will reach a huge international audience I decided to watch it. Its also the first film of this type directed by an African-American woman. Comic book films are not my cup of tea (although I loved HBO's Watchmen) and I did not care much for it, but others may enjoy it.

It was smart, straight forward and didn't pander the sexuality aspect. It was just a normal, everyday piece of the plot.

As per Theron's interview with Howard Stern a couple weeks back, this was originally meant to be a movie-theater based release. Netflix ended up buying it and releasing it on their platform instead.

I agree it would make for a great sequel or ongoing series.

I really enjoyed The Old Guard and appreciated how the relationship between Joe and Nick was depicted. As there are still more Old Guard comics to cover, hopefully, there will be a sequel.
