I agree that it's no big deal - in fact, it shouldn't be a deal at all, big or small.

 

But I don't think your comparison is quite valid. The author of a screenplay is not exactly front and centre in the eye of the public and in fact many people who saw the movie are probably unaware of who wrote it.

 

American Idol on the other hand is beamed primarily at teenagers and I could see where their parents could make an argument that a male presumably gay stripper is not exactly the role model they want their dear little Sonja to have.

 

I don't agree with that logic, but the reality is that it probably prevails. I was glad to hear that he is not going to be disqualified. Ryan is probably estatic and I wouldn't be surprised if Simon isn't pleased as well.

Somehow I do not see the David Hernadexxx story becoming a Disney movie should he win American Idol.

 

What this has done is put Hollywwod in an interesting position. For years the progressive west coast has promoted its liberal values but rarely put them $$$ behind them. While they have heralded a female stripper to Oscar winner and her fascinating story. Yet her life was not tabloid headlines. Now switch the sexes and a male stripper at a male club and we have tabloid city and a NATIONAL CRISIS !!!

 

So at the end of the day Hollywood is no different than

White House, what ever puts cash in our pocket is okay, what ever takes it must be bad (No matter who is President). As long as advertisers do not scream David Hernandexxx will remain. Hopefully they will stop the crap of America will decide. No Amercian dollars will decide.

I can't see Hernandez winning Idol. While I think he is a hottie and his singing is perfectly acceptable, he is not the best talent on the show. IMO, the winner will either be "little David" or the Irish girl with the ugly arm tat.

I'm not really a fan of American Idol and only watch it under duress when a friend of mine visits. However, it is fascinating as a cultural phenomenon but then so was Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour.

 

What also interests me is how every season there seems to be some controversy related to sex or a shady past amongst the contestants. One year is was someone named Frenchy with the porn past or something like that.

 

I surmise that the producers of this alleged entertainment did the background check and quickly smelled ratings. Plant a few stories and lo and behold viewer interest peaks.

Hold on a minute. Is this the same Hollywood that still puts pressure on their stars to stay in the closet? The same Hollywood that still pushes "arranged" hookups?

 

I saw an interesting quote from one of the Fox execs today. It went something like "If he'd been a stripper for Chippendales nobody would care."
