Danny-Darko Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 (edited) A young sailor in the Royal Navy. It was taken during the Great War, at the photographic studio of Thomas A. M. Mann of 2, Havelock Road, Hastings, Sussex. The star on his uniform indicated it is his No.1 Dress Uniform he is wearing, not his everyday work uniform, and not his white ceremonial Uniform. Walker1 Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 5 hours ago, Danny-Darko said: Man danced with men where their were no dames in the olden days. And nobody thought anything about it. Some thoughts below: A “Stag Dance” for Cowboys. It is a known fact that homosexual friendships were common among cowboys. This begs the question, in any all male community, especially in the past, such as military, religious, penal, educational, do sexual relationships form among men because no women are available, or do men seek to join such communities for the sexual opportunities? It may be both. I think in historical times, sexulaity was far more fluid without labels. Expectation was that you would get married and have kids at some point, but until then, nobody probably cared what others were doing in the privacy of their rooms. In some cultures even today-opposite sex unmarried sharing the room may raise eyebrows, but not same sex-as long as you don't proclaim yourself gay. marylander1940 1
