I'm thinking of going to LA in the not-too-distant future and I can't find the Wyndham/West Hollywood. Did it go out of business, or transfer to another chain?

If my search is right I believe it is now called London West Hollywood or maybe Bel Age Hotel. If my search is correct here are reviews for the hotel http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g33252-d82607-j2-r933134-Bel_Age_Hotel_West_Hollywood_London_West_Hollywood-West_Hollywood_California.html#TOPC

Take the reviews with a grain of salt some reviewers are over the top.

Hugs,

Greg

Unicorn,

If you're looking for the Summerfield Suites by Wyndham on Westmount Drive in WeHo (that's a block north of the Ramada and Trader Joe's) the new name is the Chamberlain. I've stayed there a couple of times.

Actually, on looking at hotels in tripdvisor, it looks like the prior Wyndham is now the Montrose. It seems like a lot of Wyndhams have been closing. I must say I keep having bad experiences when I go to Wyndhams. Maybe they're going out of business? I tend to have better experiences at Hilton family hotels or Intercontinental Hotel Group hotels. What has been you guys' experience with Wyndham?

Wyndham was bought out by several Private Equity firms. The companies have been selling off the bits and pieces. The Blackstone Group bought a sizeable chunk of the quality properties and folding them into the Hilton chain they purchased earlier this year.

From my experience in the industry, Wyndham has always been an also ran bearly making it. Customer service was never a strong suit and the owners and fanchisees rarely spent the money needed to keep the properties up to date.

I'm glad to hear it wasn't just my imagining things. I had worse customer service experiences with them than with any other hotel group by far (it didn't take too long before I would only stay there if Priceline landed me there). Their total obliviousness to customer needs seemed shocking to me. It's been well over a year since I stayed with them, and I'm a gold-level member with HHonors, SPG, and IC Hotel Group.

OK... here is the real deal:

The Wyndham Bel Age is currently closed for renovation. It will reopen shortly as "The London West Hollywood". Which is going to be a five star, exclusive and expensive hotel. It will have Gordon Ramsay's first West Coast restaurant and should be the talk of the town. It opens in April. Here is the link:

Wyndham, which was a full service hotel company, was sold to The Blackstone Group (a large private equity company), and then Blackstone cherry picked all of the exclusive and upscale properties (or those with potential) such as the Bel Age, The Boca Raton Resort, The Boulders, The Peaks, Golden Door Spa, etc.... and took those and built a company called LXR Luxury Resorts. They sold off all the rest of the lesser properties and the Wyndham name to Cendant. The London concept was developed first in New York, by converting the old Rhiga Royal Hotel in Midtown into the London New York. The London West Hollywood is next.
