In general I don't like opera--while I have not been to a professional performance, I have seen it occasionally on PBS or heard it on classical records. There are several reasons that I don't like it. On the performance/story side--the fact that the majority of operas are not sung in English bothers me--I like understanding what I am listening to--and yes I know they usually have some type of English superscripts on the stage now. The other reason I am not usually fond of opera--and this is probably the main reason--I don't like operatic voices. They usually sound strained--and I don't know maybe "overly controlled" to my ears. That being said and while I cannot say I loved Paul's performance--until he reached the last part of the song (?aria), his vocal quality seemed more natural, less strained, less "overly controlled", and warmer--and I found it much nore pleasant to listen to than I do most opera singers.

Actually I had put it at the end of a line - or at least at the end of a sentence. Trouble was that the word-wrap thingie (is that what it's called) put it at the 1st of the next line as the line was full.

Oh the wonder of computer programs:-) :-) :-)

Why, was he gay? If you liked his music there is no reason why you should not have bought it. Sounds like your organ teacher was/is a snob.

Please tell me you're not going to mention Anne Murray - Canada's other lesbian.

And I have found that the biggest opera snobs are usually gay - pity.

Zip I was thinking of mentioning her. I don't think she's a lesbian. I know she has at least one daughter, but that doesn't mean anything.

She has that home grown quality. I guess she's has a new album out now or if its not out it will be out shortly...:-)

In truth, she is probably bi. Prior to her marriage she hung out with a very butch crowd of ladies in Toronto. If there was not some attraction for her there I doubt if she would have done so.

I think it is another case of having to hide the truth in order to be successful in your profession.
