App supporting Google Voice

I am new to the google voice thing - it is my understanding that a number of apps support google voice; you can send texts via these apps using that versatile (!) google number. For example there is the Voice app, the Hangouts app...?

I’ve been using the google voice app for a couple of years and works great. I think google was pushing people to use hangouts for a while but I liked the voice app and never switched. I now also use the Burner app which has nothing to do with google voice but has similar functionality and I’m liking it so far.

When I initially started using google voice, the voice app did not support texting - they basically made use use hangouts for texting. So I have been using that app for texting for the past few years. Either should work fine.
