As Dorothy said - I don't think we're in Kansas anymore.

Ms. Sparks gets new / paid position from Mayor Newsom. This is going to help Gavin become governor ? Theresa Sparks is a She-Male and has done absolutely nothing for SF. Are there that many Transgender votes in California?

From sfgate Matier & Ross:

"Sparked: Something must have sparked between Mayor Gavin Newsom and former Police Commission President Theresa Sparks.

Sparks wasn't Newsom's pick to lead the civilian commission, but once she got the top job the two bonded, especially over the selection of incoming chief George Gascón.

And now Sparks, who has been looking for a job, is expected to be named by Newsom to the $167,596-a-year job as director of the Human Rights Commission.

"The mayor admires her leadership skills," said Newsom spokesman Nathan Ballard.

He must - she was the only candidate even considered for the job."

I don't get the sniping here ...

Is this a joke? Given her name, I think the Fire Commission would have been more appropriate.

Let's see ... "Owns a chain of dildo stores" -> Business person, probably not a *flaming* liberal. Knows the value of money. (and I suspect that the use of the "dildo store" is deliberately sensationalist or inflamtory. There are shops in town like "good vibrations",

which I believe is actually a collective).

"Has ... children" and likely meets child support obligations

Experience in local government ; did a good job on the Police Review Commission

Transgendered -> totally empathetic of any of the issues brought before the Human Rights commision.

Is that really such a bad choice? I haven't met the person myself, but have yet to see any evidence of cronyism.

I'm not at all questioning her ability to lead, just jokingly the choice of agencies given her name.

Actually I wish we in New York City had capable public servants like her through out our local government rather than our singular resident autocrat, Mayor Putinburg.
