I know there are a couple of half-off outlets in Vegas which sell same-day tickets for shows at half off. What shows are typically available? Is there a shot at Penn & Teller during the week? We'll be there a couple of days after Memorial Day, and it seems to be a slow week if hotel rates are any indication. I don't suppose that any of the Cirque du Soleil shows ever go for half off?

I think you need to go check it out they only know on that day what is available,I think if your not taking a shit load of people like more that 1 to 3 you might do alright. I was there last week but I didnt use it. It is right across the street from Monte Carlo which is where I was and I always book my shows in advance . Judging by the shows I went to 3 that time, there were many seats available all around so I would say take a chance. Some friends have told me they have done quite well there but once again I dont think you can really predict. HUGS Chuck

Try http://www.goldstarevents.com. They have now added LV to their site.

"Phantom" & "Mamma Mia" seem now to be discount regulars. When I was there last month, midweek, "KA", a Cirque MGM Show was available at the outlets.

P.S. I saw "Phantom" last Dec and it really is done well at the theatre in the "Venetian" built specially for this show. I had seen the show before in LA & London however this slightly shortened version is excellent.

There are a ton of other shows that are at the discount tix booths. I saw one last year that was hilarious. The "Anthony Cool" hypnosis show at the Paris Hotel. Very Funny. Glad I wasn`t under his spell. :) :)

Thanks! That's actually very good to hear about Ka. Which of the outlets did you find Ka being sold? Also, will that website give you a lot of junk e-mail and can you stop it from coming when you don't want it anymore?

I have never received any junkmail from this website.

The ticket outlet was either the one by the Peppermill Restuarant or the website shown. I didn`t buy a ticket just saw it on the list.

I did see the show later but was a guest.

Count me in on Goldstar Events. I've picked up cheap tickets to shows and even the occasional baseball game. They're remarkably broad in coverage, and I often find out about performances I wouldn't otherwise have known about through them.

You get a weekly email listing available events, and each email has an unsubscribe link. I presume they honor those requests, but haven't seen a need to test it yet.

I bought a half-price ticket for "La Cage" with Frank Marino from one of these outlets on the Strip. Not all the shows are available at half-price. It happened that I was walking on the Strip when noticed the outlet and since I had some free time I decided to see the show. I believe that if you want to get a good seat you'd better buy a full price ticket.

Las Vegas is on my list of places to visit before the end of 2007.

Thanks for this thread, but I'd like to know when are the "low" and "high" seasons of this city? I'd presume the "low" is during our summertime since it's scorching hot there, but who out there could address my query?

Vegas is a little weird about "high" and "low". Aside from weekends and holidays as Steven mentioned, it varies WIDELY depending on what groups/conventions are in town.

If the rodeo is in town, rooms are hard to come by and the rates go through the roof. If there are a lot of empty rooms, they'll go for a song.

It's all in picking the right time based on what ISN'T going on.

Unlike, for example, Orlando, which has predictable high and low periods, Las Vegas hotel prices vary widely from day-to-day depending on what conventions are going on. During my next 5-day trip, for instance, there are only a couple of thousands of convention attendees expected for the first three nights, but for the last two nights, there are two separate conventions each with 30,000 expected attendees, plus other small conventions. Needless to say, hotel prices double or triple, depending on the hotel. It's not the month which is important. You can find convention schedules by googling "vegas convention schedule."

Or, without even looking at that, you can simply check the hotels' prices. You can quickly figure out from the room rates when something is going on in Vegas. Often the price changes are mind-boggling.

Here are some examples:

(1) Hooters Casino Hotel. 5/31 $57/night, 6/2 $216/night

(2) Rio Casino Hotel. 5/31 $87/night, 6/1 $391/night

(3) Planet Hollywood Hotel (Prevl'y Aladin) 5/30 $89/night, 6/1 $399/night (actually, you can get the room even cheaper on Planet Hollywood's website for 5/30)

(4) Las Vegas Hilton 5/29 $59/night, 6/2 $369/night

All of these are from http://www.expedia.com I think the last one takes the cake--an over 6-fold difference! So, it's not the month but rather the actual date which makes the big difference!
