David Cassidy has a new limited-edition CD of all-new hi-energy dance versions of his solo and Partridge Family classics. I am not really a fan of today's dance music but this is really fucking good. He re-recorded his vocals and it's just a sexy, fun disco record. Kind of like Madonna's "Confessions" and Cher's "Believe" as done by Keith Partridge. :)

To think that our local jokester, Rick, could talk about an albumin like this without mentioning Ethel's classic release where she did roughly the same thing! LOL

In case I'm being too subtle, Ethel = La Merm

There is a difference! The Ethel Merman Disco Album is terrible (and was probably the final nail in disco's coffin), but this is good. Like, really good. Ethel's album is campy and I can't imagine that the producer (Peter Matz of the Carol Burnett Show) didn't do the whole thing as a joke, whereas Cassidy has one of the top producer/remixers reworking his songs:

Cassidy recorded his vocal tracks in the original keys and tempos before handing them off to Craig J. After that, most similarities between the new versions and the originals stopped.

There's hardly a harpsichord to be heard. 'Cherish' gets a chill-out groove. 'I'll Meet You Halfway' becomes a gospel/disco anthem.

"I changed tempos. I created harmonies out of some of the melodies that he sang. I did all sorts of stuff," Craig J says. Adds Cassidy: "It was like taking the material from an old suit, then ripping it up and putting it back every possible different way. Yeah, it's all the same material, but it doesn't look anything like the suit."
