Today may be known more tradionally as Tax Day, but April 15th is special this year as it is the 60th Anniverssary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier when he joined the old Brooklyn Dodgers. Throughout the majors today, players will be wearing the number 42 in his honor. Now we need to get the Postal Service to change that 33 cent stamp to a 42 cent stamp!

It would be hard to overstate the importance of heroes like Jackie Robinson. He inspired millions to hope and reach for their dreams.

Another hero was Major Taylor (http://majortaylorassociation.org). Fifty years before Jackie Robinson broke the baseball color line Major Taylor broke the color line in bicycle racing which what was at that time the most popular sport in the USA.

There were velodromes all over the country, champion racers were household names and Major Taylor is still considered by many to be the best racer ever.

He endured intense racism and succeeded despite being banned from many races because of his race, and was physically attacked before, during and after races. Inspite of all this he remained a gentleman with exemplary conduct.

"Life is too short for a man to hold bitterness in his heart."

-Marshall W. "Major" Taylor.
