Lockers are cheaper but don't provide a place to play if you find any action. I'd recommend getting a room. Leave the door ajar so as to attract interest. If someone wants to give you company but you have no interest just say "No thank you". Most guys accept this as a respectful turn down. If there is a sauna or hot tub, most guys dont mind touching. If objection, just says "No thanks". Remember that everyone has different tastes. Turn downs should not be taken personally. Most of all, have fun. Lots of eye candy even if no action.

hey guys...so I have never been to a bathhouse, but just curious so I don't know what to expect....so can I just go and walk around and watch?

I'm very private so probably wouldn't do anything....do I get a locker or a room? Any info? thanks.

Lockers vs Rooms

How comfortable are you winging it for your first time? If you're either really into public play or just want to chance meeting someone who's already got a room, a locker will do fine.

Rooms in some baths can offer you more amenities (porn, slings, themes, clear plexi between rooms to watch neighbors, etc). Other baths, it's just a closed door in the event you need a little breathing room. Sadly, not all bathhouses are like Steamworks in Chicago or some of the more storied baths in Europe and Asia.

Some guys never want a room. A bath is a place to get in, get off and get out. Other guys want to use every second of that 8 hour time limit. You'll figure out where you stand once you've gotten in and explored around a little.

Hi Larry...I've been to a few bathhouses. I would say you can definitely walk around and watch. Most bathhouses have public play areas where you can absolutely watch what is happening. Typically the people playing in public enjoy the voyeuristic aspect of it. Getting a room is better if you wanted to play with someone and have some privacy, but if you don't expect to do anything the first time, a locker would be fine. To me a room is pretty important because I do like to use if for play.

Many bathhouses require a membership and then pay for either the locker or room. If you are just visiting for a short time, many bathhouses will combine the two for a "daily membership."

You should expect some features of a gym or spa: A whirlpool/jacuzzi, a sauna, a steam-room, showers, etc. But there will also likely be some more sexual areas with like large mattresses and porn playing. Probably a glory hole room with cut outs for cock-sucking. Maybe they will have S&M type things like a bondage bench or a sling or stuff like that...but not all. A lot of have an area that is specifically not sexual..a lounge or something with maybe a TV playing Hollywood movies, a couple of couches, vending machines and a coffeemaker or something. I've seen a few with a straight-up weight room with people working out.

Definitely expect everyone to be naked with most having a towel around their waste but many with nothing at all. Some will wear jockstraps or underwear. People are there for sex so often guys will show they are interested by touching you on some part of your body. If you're not interested, tell them or kind of brush them away with your hand. Bathhouses have rules about being overly aggressive so if someone is you should be able to notify the management and they can deal with it.

Most good bathhouses have web sites with lots of pictures so you can see what kind of things they have. Definitely check that out and check out the rates on there as well.

Unless you don't want to shell out the extra money, get a room. Are you in Montreal? I miss the 456 lol.

If you go late at night (after midnight) on a weekend, it's often very busy and you may get on a waiting list if you want a room. Most guys wear a towel that the bathhouse provides around their waist. Some bring sandals so they aren't walking around barefoot. The floors aren't always super clean. Walk all over the place and get the lay of the land first.

That's one of the greatest advice ever given on here!

I would also say do your research. There are some bathhouses that are gross...just not well maintained, dirty, and often with very pushy kinda weird guys. The one in Vegas comes to mind...visited it and both the steam room and sauna were broken and just a general lack of cleanliness throughout. Many cities do have bathhouse competition but some large cities have none including Austin, Minneapolis, Boston and New Orleans.

A good website is https://www.gaycities.com. They actually have a "bathhouse" section for each city that you click so you can see what people think of them.

In general, European bath houses are cleaner and have better facilities

than the American ones. I was stunned the first time I entered one

and there was a full on bar serving food inside. As a solo traveler it

was heaven. Great beer, ok bar food, and sex...all in one place?...sign me up!

As others have said, keep your expectations reasonable, check your ego at

the door, be polite, be respectful, and most importantly have fun. I’m a

big fan of bath houses. Unfortunately the ones in NYC are amoung the worst.

Head to Europe if it’s really your scene and you enjoy them. The difference

is night and day. Just be prepared for the occasional “freak out” after you’ve

fucked a dudes brains out and in the afterglow the first words are spoken

and he suddenly realizes your a foreigner....lmao.
