I don’t think you should do that. I suspect the problem is the hardware and not the software. Have you considered that it may be time to upgrade? Alternatively, have you considered back up data, wiping the hard drive (not with a cloth), and reinstalling your operating system?

 

Finally, do you have enough free drive space for the software to maintence itself (not technically correct words there...)

 

My laptop is only two years old and has a 2tb hard drive. Everything other than the sleep/wake seems okay. Perhaps your suggestion to wipe and reinstall the hard drive is the way to go, however, for that I'll take it to a pro. I wouldn't trust myself for that.
