I once attended a recital series at Carnegie Hall, which featured Birgit Nilsson among its artists. The one thing that I have always remembered from that series is that Birgit Nilsson's voice was "ready" at the first note she sang. I was so impressed. Virtually every one of the other artists required some singing before their voices were "ready."
