If a client were to take you out for drinks, would you prefer lounges or pubs/sports bars?

Hi guys,

I've recently began to become interested in taking guys out for drinks before a session. I usually take them either to a lounge or the hotel bar if I'm traveling. Problem is, hotel bars usually don't open until later in the day, and sometimes the service isn't good. Plus, I'm a huge beer drinker, and prefer beers over cocktails or wine. I don't think I've ever been to a lounge or a hotel bar with a good selection of beer. I just worry that going to a pub or a sports bar would give the impression that I'm cheap or tacky. Ideally, we'd just get drinks at my place, but that's impractical when traveling because hotels don't have good refrigerators.

What are your thoughts?

Do you do this to check the accuracy of his pictures and stats?

If yes: Would you pay the escorts for the "trial time" if you decided not to take him upstairs?

No. It's just easier for me to have a good time once I build some chemistry. I like to text chat or talk with the escort on the phone before even setting up a meeting to see if they're the conversationalist kind. I don't think of it as time wasted because getting to know someone almost always makes them more interesting. It makes the play more interesting too. I'm pretty picky when it comes to sex, but there is something about opening up and chatting with strangers (whom I know are not creeps) that is so delicious. It's almost like a nonsexual fetish for me.

I don't do this every time. If the escort jumps right to business on the phone, I go straight for the upstairs.

I don't think you should worry about this for one second. On a practical side, just about anyone should be able to muster the wardrobe for a pub or sports bar, but not necessarily for a nice lounge.

Arranging an overnight one time, I inquired if the gentleman travelled with dressy clothes and was assured he did, so I made a reservation at a nice restaurant (with a dress code) but when I checked in with him once he was in town, it turned out he hadn't brought anything. Reservation cancelled and Chipotle, it was! I've learned not to focus too much on stuff like that.

I don’t think that’s cheap or tacky at all. It’s actually refreshing and I think it’s a great icebreaker.

I used to see a client who would start ALL of our visits over drinks or dinner. I actually got to know most all of the restaurants in a city hanging with him lol.

That said, if you do chose a pub or bar (and it sounds like you’re going early anyway)...try to choose a place that’s suitable. Some places, specifically sports bars just aren’t suitable for “arranged” visits. I wouldn’t want to go to a college frat bar, and my client is in his 60s or 70s. I’ve done it before, and I’ve grown to really not care what people think, but do I get slightly annoyed when people keep turning their heads looking at my table.

I also don’t like going to pubs with clients when there’s a big game/boxing match going on (then again, when is there ever not a big game on?). Only because the crowd can be a bit distracting when you’re trying to coddle up to each other, but suddenly and repeatedly here loud cheers. I’m also not fond of people who can’t hold their liquor, and it’s not appropriate environment when with a client...so that wouldn’t be suitable either.

I remember one night, one of my former clients who is rather short and older...took me out to a pub on a Friday night, full of rowdy hot college kids. I felt really out of place and uncomfortable. And that’s not to be judgemental, this was after the session so it’s not like I wasn’t attracted to him. It’s just the atmosphere wasn’t “fit” for younger guy/older guy situation.

I did very much enjoy a wine bar that @tanman4u took me out to over the summer. Super classy, mixture of ages/ethnics, and everybody occupied with wine tastings and such.

as OldNBusted suggests above, if you're worried about what the other guy thinks, you're meeting the wrong guy (and worrying too much!).....to counteract this concern about your "image" (!), tell him ahead of time, during pre-meet planning, that you'd like to have a beer before the session and that you prefer very casual, low-key joints where beer selection is a priority and dress codes aren't......
