I would like to switch to satellite tv, in particular because I can get the Yankees game on Direct TV, and, because I hate Time Warner. Would I hate Direct TV just as much, or do folks have good experiences with it? How about its internet connection? Thanks.

Rule #1: You will always hate SOMETHING about your tv/internet provider

Rule #2: See Rule #1

You might want to check out the forums at http://www.dslreports.com -- they're currently showing Time Warner/RoadRunner customers as "unhappy campers" but that appears at first glance to be based on one post.

Personally, I don't have major gripes with TWC except for the horribly botched changeover from Adelphia. (A 3-day blackout? And the "advance notice" arrived in snail mail 2 days into it? Hilarious!)

You ought to be able to get the games you want with one of TWC's packages, if they ever implement them. (See botched changeover, above.)

Dish and Time Warner/RoadRunner?

I have TimeW for the local stations and Roadrunner for faster then DSL, while Dish brings in the Sat stations. I don't know which sports broadcasts are carried on any of them.

Roadrunner has been very good after going through several modems at their cost, and they program the computer for it to work. Service has been great, even on the phone. But even it gets slow in peak periods. Started with AOL years ago, and still have it without cost.

I see no need to change anything at this time.

I have had DirecTV for over 5 years. Only have problems with severe weather and usually in short intervals - would say no more than 12 times has this been an issue in the five years. Have had to call DirecTV for help only twice in the 5 years - both times I was very pleased with the service.

I do not use the internet service (which I think DirecTV sold to HughesNet).

We now have a third option here...FIOS via Verizon. It is fiber to the home with phone, internet, and TV service.
