I recently encountered an interesting exchange with a client. We didn’t end up meeting due to a weird miscommunication. I recommended to him that he could take a warm shower before I arrive or when I get there to elevate his body temperature and open pores so the massage oil could better adhere to his body. He took offense to it and threw a fit to how I could discredit his hygiene.

My question is was I out of place to recommend clients to shower beforehand or when I arrive? My intentions were nowhere in the realm of questioning a clients hygeine.

not at all! I have had a client show up with pure male funk,. I didn't ask but suggested he use my shower. Lets just say he had his 5 year old tantrum and left. As a client myself to others, I ensure that I shower and just be clean! I really dont believe, not think, that this needs to be said or explained at all to anyone, escort or client!

It all depends on context. I do a great deal of therapeutic work for athletes during their competitions/games. "Funk" is expected during such sessions. But in relaxation sessions it would definitely be unacceptable. You're right, it should be a norm that doesn't need to be said or explained.

See even if I was an athlete and came to see you, I still would clean up but I completely understand what you mean.

Oh sure, for a relaxation session or something like that, but when they're in game or a competition and need immediate therapeutic results, I don't care if they're sweaty or whatever.

I put “I recommend you shower before I arrive to the appointment, or wait until I arrive to shower with me. A nice warm shower helps open pores for the massage oil and bring up your body temperature for a more relaxing experience”

I’ve never had a masseur offer to shower with me before the massage but I would jump at the chance. I would find that welcoming rather than offensive.

I'm inferring from your post that you hadn't met face to face yet? How the hell can he take offense if you'd never met?? It's not like you said, "btw, you stink, take a shower before I get there". Personally, I'd be happy if a MT suggested showering first simply because it means that if he is concerned at all about my hygiene, I can assume he also worries about his own and won't be some tweaked out addict trying to get enough money for his next fix.

We’re living in a day and age where it seems far too many of us are searching for ways to be offended by something or someone. How exhausting. No, I would not find this offensive. I would find it a relief, actually, that you find my well being important (and at least for me perhaps hygiene is also important) and that you are open to making it something we might actually do together. That’s an added bonus.

Some folks have too much baggage and get offended so easily...

Maybe you got lucky not meeting him.
