I will be travelling to Houston next weekend and was wanting some suggestions on places to stay either near Montrose or downtown. Any nice Bed'n' Breakfasts or if not--a reasonable hotel.

Thanks,

The best gay bed and breakfast in town is the Lovett Inn, which is right in the heart of the Montrose, either a walk or a short drive from just about everything gay.

There are other nice bnbs along Heights St., but they're not gay. There are other gay bnbs in the Montrose, but I'm not sure they're nice. At least not as classy as the Lovett Inn.

The newish owners of the Lovett tell me that they have an art display there now, but I haven't been by to see it and am not sure which room they would have put it in.

I've been hired to go to the Lovett, but I think I've actually spent more time there as a poll watcher. They are civic minded enough that our precinct is lucky enough to vote there.

Thanks for getting back with me--on this--I had looked at them but the breakfast was only a continental one--and I was looking for a place with whirlpool tub.

Know anything about Robin's Nest B&B Inn

Gar1eth,

In your posts both for a weekend companion and for accommodations while visiting Houston you have dismissed every suggestion in much the same way as Goldilocks...too hot, too cold, no jacuzzi, improper lighting, etc. etc. etc.

My own personal suggestion which was not sought is that you stay home and stare in the mirror. I suspect it's the only place in which you'll find what you're truly seeking.

Ya know, I never thought about that. Thanks for your truly thoughtful suggestion. To paraphrase "With acquaintances like these who needs...."

Actually, HB said exactly what I have been thinking but had not bothered to post. Give your big head a shake, Garieth, the world does not revolve around you. Come to think of it - better give your little head a shake at the same time, as it seems highly unlikely that you will find anyone else suitable to shake it for you!

I don't really think I should respond back--all it will do is lead to more attacks--that I don't think are particularly warranted. And I have no intention of being part (as either the attacker or the attackee) in a new series of famous diatribes as others have done from time to time on this Message Board.

So with that being said, what I would like to say now is "I appreciate the people with constructive suggestions--and hope I can help others from time to time in a similar fashion.

Too late - you already did - gotcha....

You can't go wrong with The Lovett. Great charm and located steps from the gayborhood. Chuck's suggestion of 'Americas' for food is also a good one. I'd also recommend Cafe Annie too.

*shameless plug alert* If you're headed anywhere near San Antonio, i'd also recommend The Painted Lady Inn. Gay-owned and for the past 10 years called one of the top B&B's in the states:
