They already have Nathan Gunn, Simon Keenlyside, Edwin Schott and William Burdern in the all natural. WHo will be next? (OK, I hope it is Juan Diego Florez, but that is my personal hangup).

Enjoy!

Re: OK, I hope it is Juan Diego Florez, but that is my personal hangup.

A live recording of Rossini's Matilde di Shabran starring Juan Diego Florez from the 2004 Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Italy was recently issued in Europe by Decca. It will hopefully be released shortly in the USA. When I first got wind of this release a couple of months ago I had hoped for a DVD since the production was indeed televised. Unfortunately so far only an audio recording will be released. Too bad, as Juan Diego appears in an enticing leather outfit in this production… while not as alluring as the naked version might be to some… it still would be quite a tantalizing prospect to see this guy decked out in leather.

Incidentally, JDF plays a sadistic character named Corradino, about whom it is declared, “Il feroce Corradino odia il sesso feminino.” A line which has cracked me up ever since I first heard this rarely performed gem of an opera. I have a copy of the original audio broadcast of this production from 2004 and it is easily JDF's most spectacular performance ever!!! Not to be missed.

Obviously someone is having a lot of fun with photoshop, because if opera really had nude scenes like these it would be the most popular event on the planet.

Actually these are all really hot guys, these singers, and the photoshop artist has done a great job so you can't tell where the singer ends and the porn star add on begins.

But in fact Nathan Gunn has an amazing bod for anyone, and could be a porn star if he wanted. Erwin Schrott is also very very sexy in real life. They are all good singers too.

More opera porn please.

Rod Gilfry is doing the relatively new opera "Sophie's Choice" in Washington this month, although fully covered in clothes.

I have seen Juan Diego Florez twice in fully staged (clothes and everything else) operas in the last year ---"Don Pasuale" and "Italiana in Algeri." He has an amazing voice and is extremely good looking, but I have yet to see much acting or stage charisma.

That was understandable in "Don Pasquale" because of his role and powerhouse star Anna Netrebko. Will I finally see and hear the real Florez if I buy tickets to the Met's "Barbiere di Siviglia" this season? IMO Florez doesn't particularly dominate the DVD version of that opera.

Regarding Juan Diego Florez, I agree that he did not dominate the recently released Barbiere DVD from an acting point of view, but from a vocal standpoint he is indeed awesome. While I did not get to see him in Don Pasquale at the Met, based on the broadcast, he did not seem to dominate that production at all. However, I feel this is more a function of the opera itself, which does not lend itself to JDF’s strengths.

However, a few years ago he totally dominated the MET staging of L'Italiana in Algeri at the performance I attended. His acting was very physical, and that he could do all the vocal acrobatics along with the purely physical stunts was indeed awe inspiring... I have never seen a singer exude such verve and enthusiasm on the operatic stage!

I already have tickets for the MET's new Barbiere production. I certainly hope he will be a forceful presence.

As for seeing him buff naked… I have no desire. While he is a good looking guy, I don’t think there would be much there compared to the singers already mentioned in this thread… unless you are interested in a mature version of a twink-like body type.

Even though Nathan Gunn (yum!) would elicit a much better orgasm in the literal sense, when referring to an orgasm in the figurative sense JDF comes immediately to my mind.

If any operatic star’s vocal pyrotechnics could be described as “orgasmic”, it would be those produced by JDF. Get the new recording of Matilde di Shabran referred to above, listen to the first sixty seconds of his entrance music, it will prove my point…

I saw Florez in "L'Italiana in Algeri" in Washington this spring, not the Met. I have heard wonderful things about his prior performances in

"Barbiere" in New York, but have not decided whether or not to buy tickets. Right now I am looking forward to "Sophie's Choice" in DC in a few weeks. Except for Renee Fleming (and one or two other singers) operas, you can usually wait to the last minute to buy tickets, unlike a decade ago.

I will get the "Matilde di Shabran" recording. Thanks for the heads up!
