Sorry if this is already covered, but I have been mostly a spa type guy, mainly because I can’t host and I enjoy the scene there. I have a pretty good understanding of minimum to maximum tips for the guys who work at spas and I know they only get a small portion of the hourly fee.

However, I’m considering trying a few independent Masseurs who work from their homes and I’m not sure how tipping works when you hire someone like that.

In the “real world” if someone is the owner of a business, you don’t tip them because they are already getting all the money. Is that the case with masseurs? I know they’d all appreciate more money but if you don’t tip, do they think you’re cheap or don’t like the work? What is the norm for going to someone who massages from masseurfinder, etc?

Thanks!

I normally visit guys at their incalls. I never pay less than the posted or quoted rate. Usually just 10-15 more than whatever it is. I don't carry a lot of cash so I tend to not withdraw much more than the quoted rate as I usually pay in cash. When I opt for a debit card payment I'll tip a little more to make up for the service fees and " inconvenience" of it not being cash.

I figure if you're working from home, you already have overhead you've considered in your rate. Since I'm a regular for a few providers, always prompt, and don't cancel, I also feel my being a sure thing and reliable is a benefit to all parties involved.

Also since I'm consistent and reliable, I have gotten extras or more attention unprompted, not every time but it has happened. I take that as both of us getting comfortable with each other and familiar. Being friendly, warm, hospitable, and nice goes a long way with me. I have had massages from guys who had good technical skills but didn't come off as being friendly and I still tipped them but I have not and don't plan to return.

When you’re at a restaurant, you tip the server but not the restaurant owner. Which, by the way, is just another way for a restaurant to pass off its duty for paying staff onto the customers. I wish they’d be more blatant about it and just increase the cost of food.

Tipping in general is such a gray area overall, and when you tip below acceptable levels - say service sucks, you are left feeling bad and even managers will pressure you about why you didn’t tip. If it’s optional, get off of me.

What if the restaurant owner is your server? What if the bartender at a bar is actually the owner? Do you ask who they are before you tip?

The old rule was if an owner pours you a beer, you don’t tip the owner because he’s making money on the beer he sold you. It was seen as low brow for an owner to accept a tip if they served you a meal or poured you a drink.

So you ask who they are before you tip? At a bar I just hand them the money, tip included, and walk away. I have heard of some owners who take their tips and split them between the other employees. Nice idea. Back to the original question: If you want "extras" tipping is recommended. A friend of mine did massage from his home and if people wanted extras he expected extra. If they didn't give extra the next visit they wouldn't get extra. PS If they are really into you and want to give the extras away, expecting nothing, most likely they will tell you you can come back at a lesser fee.

I've been to several smaller, sometimes neighborhood bars where it's acceptable to buy the bartender a drink, whether they are the owner, manager, or working there. I don't distinguish between ownership or otherwise. Either tip, or buy buy them a drink, but always tip. I've gotten a several free drinks too.

P.S, I tip my barber, and until a couple of years ago, he own the small strip mall containing his shop.

Why are you so passionate about this? I think I made my point clear. Owners, historically don’t accept tips. No, I don’t ask someone as I mostly assume someone serving me ISN’T an owner. But I have had owners say “no need to tip, this is my bar”.

If a masseur is advertising on masseurfinder or comparable especially under sensual, I do assume a HE is included. If a masseur wants to take a shot at not providing that, that’s their prerogative, but I’m guessing their customer frequency and pool will be smaller.

In my opinion, I think a masseur working for himself would actually be at a competitive advantage if they said “this price is all inclusive - no tips necessary”.

Don’t get me wrong, I tip 20% religiously when out at a restaurant or bar. Also tip my barber. I just think a tipping society is dumb. If you expect more money for your service, just charge it.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have a question but didn’t see the need to start another thread. I hope someone responds here!

I got a massage from a provider who offers different rates (explained upon booking) for sensual massage and escorting. I booked a massage and then we had sex (initiated by him). I didn’t pay his escorting rate, but I tipped well enough to make it very close. I thought that struck a good balance between showing appreciation for his enthusiasm but not paying for something I didn’t request. I want to book again, but don’t want to come off as a cheap...can I reasonably book another massage? Should I just pay the escort rate entirely if we go further again?

You are fine booking another massage, I would say. Just don’t go into it with the expectation of sex. Consider that he may have just been super horny THAT day and he may not be on your next visit. If you want more than a massage for sure, hit him up, mention his rentmen ad and pay for the full service.

If you do book a second massage and get the same good service as your first visit - tip again like you did before. I don’t see the need to pay the escort rate if you book a massage and get a little more, but less than the full ‘boyfriend experience’. My $0.02. :)
