Great news on the medical front. Modern researchers in the hunt for cures on the cellular level have discovered a cure for the number one cause of blindness in this country;

MASTURBATION.

Seriously, there appears to be a cure for the wet form of Macular degeneration. The drug Lucentis has proven effective in stabilizing or improving sight in 95% of the cases treated. Of course, your grandmother's warnings about masturbation may no longer be needed as well.

The down side is the prohibitive cost of the drug which now runs in the multiple tens of thousands of dollars yearly. It is very close to a drug from the same drug maker which is used for eye tumors and other cancer related conditions.

Anyway, great news for masturbators everywhere, if you have the pocket change for the prescription.

(please note, I have a family member who suffers from this terrible condition (not masturbation that I know of) and we all welcome this news of a cure.)

Jack,

Thank you. A young woman who is a good friend was recently diagnosed with the wet form of macular degeneration. Other treatments have failed and she has been getting used to the idea of just losing her sight in that eye. If this can offer her any hope, that would be very good indeed.

I'll pass on the info to her and her husband. Thanks for sharing.

How could anyone take your posting seriously, with the INANE style that you chose to use to post this FACT about a serious issue???

Unlike the cost of many other medications for many other medical conditions??? What again, is your point????

Off the wall, silly comments like this just undermine any valid point that you are trying to make!!!!!!!

Then WELCOME it with a posting that is worthy of the topic!!! Your silly little "observations in an attempt to be cutesy", just TOTALLY wiped out any valid point, at least imo, that you were TRYING to make! :-(

Thanks for the info and your comments about whacking off got my attention and I am sure a few others. I watched my Dad go legally blind from macular degeneration. It is too bad he did not live long enough for this medication but I am happy it is now available and hopefully some way will be found so that people who need it can get it. ( yes, I know I am probably dreaming but it is early morning ).

The only good thing about macular degeneration is that it develops fairly slowly, so if this can stabilize the condition in the early stages, it's good news. When my mother was diagnosed in her early 70s, the doctor assured her she would never become completely blind; of course, he didn't count on her living to 102, and by her mid-90s it had progressed to the point that she really was blind. Since it is often an inherited condition (three of her siblings also have it), this is very good news for me.

I have a relative who has lost a lot of eye sight due to diabetes. I wonder if this will help. I also wonder if the price will go down and if insurance will cover it eventually.
