I always wondered why her rendition of Lady Madonna was removed as the theme song from GRACE UNDER FIRE after the 3rd season, & then was scrubbed from those episodes when the show went into syndication.

 

I assume it was something having to do with royalties, but it's a shame that probably the pinnacle of her career isn't regularly seen anymore. Thank God for youtube, right?

I hope they don't try to claim her a conservative just like they did with Steve Jobs. Sorry if I'm going off subject... but she helped and finance the Civil Rights campaign and most democratic causes.

Ah who cares-her voice is what I care about-she is a legend! These small things come and go-people like her live on for ever.

Wrong. Aretha used her exceptional music for political purposes, to advance the Civil Rights movement. R-E-S-P-E-C-T is a profound political anthem, not a mere toe-tapping song. She vaulted to a higher level.

In a stunning show of raw talent and professionalism, Aretha Franklin performed the aria “Nessun Dorma” during the Grammys’ “In Memoriam” segment. When pressed for a replacement, that year’s producer, Ken Ehrlich, went to Aretha.

 

“And she said she wanted to hear the dress rehearsal,” he told the U.K.’s Far Out magazine “In those days we had a boombox with a cassette. And I brought it to her and played it for her. When she heard it, she said, ‘Yeah, I can do this.’” Needless to say, she did not disappoint.
