Oh, I think we do know otherwise. Libido is essentially determined by testosterone levels. Trans men will tell you that their experience as sexual beings totally changed once they went on testosterone (as have my T-deficient patients who were put back on physiological T levels). Although women can in a certain sense appreciate male beauty, gay men go goofy over male beauty on a wholly different level. I hired a gorgeous bi escort a year or so ago. He told me that when he goes to gay bars, men come to him like bees to honey. When he goes to straight bars, he has to make the effort, and then the women couldn’t care less about his looks, but rather about his job and ability to provide. I’m surprised this is news to anyone.

We're talking about different things. What you're referring to is the fairly well documented "visually responsive" aspect of human males as compared to females. That doesn't mean males are able to appreciate aesthetics more than females, it just means males are stimulated visually in ways that females don't appear to be as far as we know.

I’ve always said that male beauty is wasted on heterosexuals. :( If life were fair, all hot looking men would be gay. Women not only “don’t appear to be,” but simply can’t appreciate male beauty the way gay men can. It’s simply chemically impossible. It would be nice if we could all be bi. Definitely not in my case, though—I’m 100% gay.

Eh, career has a moderating effect here. Looks are wasted on struggling young straight men. Great looking straight men with middle class careers (e.g. doctors) do VERY well with women. Exhibit A: Dr Mike, a D.O. practicing family medicine in NJ, is dating the former Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach.

Well, I wouldn’t exactly classify physicians as having “middle class careers.” Isn’t it every Jewish mother’s goal to have her daughter marry a doctor? But as a gay man, I’d probably rather be gorgeous than be a doctor...

Most internists today are probably between middle and upper middle class. About wanting a doctor as a son in law, that was back when medicine was a more lucrative field. Still, doctors are well respected, which helps on the straight dating market.

Doctors don't start making real money until after their residency, though, and unless they come from a wealthy family, typically finance medical school and all their expenses during with loans. So while their nominal income places them high, their disposable income isn't nearly top 1% for a number of years. Surgeons might not really get out of the whole until they are in their 40s.

Your link says, "The median annual Physician - Family Practice salary is $197,121, as of May 30, 2018, with a range usually between $173,620-$226,222"

He's at the very beginning of his career, so I'm guessing he's either around the $170K end of the range of below it.

Also, I should have been clearer: He's likely between the 50th and 80th percentiles for men in Manhattan, where he does likely most of his dating. (He's a celeb dating Miss Universe after all.) The 80th percentile in Manhattan is 180K, but that includes women (who typically earn less than men).

To bring things back to the topic, he does significantly better on the dating market than most men in that percentile.

Likely there are significant factors at play that lead to an outcome where an attraction to the opposite sex is part of one's identity. The scientific world doesn't know exactly how that kind of identity has evolved to the point where most men are mostly straight. There are plenty of theories. Then there are those that claim God's plan, what the Bible says, and so on. Me, I pay attention to what science has to say. Don't care about religious agendas.

One could read up on the matter a bit. But I get the impression that attraction to the opposite sex and attraction to the same sex remain outcomes without known cause(s). Much more scientific data likely needs to be gathered, more theories generated and studies funded.

Back to reality. The article states he practices in New Jersey, not Manhattan. And you do have to go to the island of Manhattan to find a place where family physicians’ salaries aren’t in the top 5% of their community. In most places, it’s closer to the top 1 or 2 percent. Of course, I’m sure Manhattan FP’s make far more than the national average, but to pin your argument on cherry-picking a small, wealthy borough of a major city to support your argument isn’t exactly intellectually honest.

Christ this thread has gone downhill since my posts about peacocks. If you want to laugh (or at least smile) go back and re-read those! :)

Ok, I’ll do that.

Northern NJ is a suburb of Manhattan. Entire towns are populated with mostly Wall Street people. There are cops in Jersey making $150k.

Yes, He practices in NJ but based on his celeb status and the fact that he's dating Miss Universe, he’s dating in NY. Many men from that area of NJ do.

I was using him as an anecdote, which meant using figured appropriate for his situation. More generally, if a man as attractive as this doctor made 75th percentile income in, say, southern NJ and chose to date there, I think he’d do very well.

OK, that's it for stunning straight doctors. Back to our regularly scheduled program.

Who knows if the rumors are true, but supposedly Dr. Mike and Pia broke up awhile ago. He hasn't mentioned her on his usually busy instagram in awhile.

You're right, but he wasn't lonely for long. He's dating some Fox News host now--very attractive but more plastic than Pia.

I guess gorgeous men have to come from somewhere. Maybe in 25 years, I’ll still be going at it! ;)

Why do you bet that? Yes, it's a big deal to have landed Miss Universe, but that may have been one or two dates.

Guys who look like him always have big tallywackers. And if not in actuality, at least in my mind they do.
