I always try to stay in the eastern part of Old Town around the Palladium Mall for location. SIA asian fusion has great lunches for $5. There are several Michelin restuarants there too and the Meso Wagu burger spot. Up and Down are close for rough trade (and Deni the cute bartender at Up).  Avoid the tourist ghetto of western Old Town. Wenseclaus Square has thousands of young visitor guys coming to town parading the sidewalks to befriend and maybe more if discreet. The hotel rates should be very, very reasonable next month but US brands are high. 

I can't agree more. I stay at the Hilton Old Town (i am lucky enough to have access to a decent rate) and it has access to literally everything you need, and everything else is accessible by the transit system that literally runs through it.
