  1. This handsome young gentleman is visiting NYC and reached out to me.... wondering if anyone has any personal experience - I tried to search but came up with nothing.... thanks! https://rentmen.eu/PapiChaseXXL
  2. I feel particularly guilty about this because I was one of gregbig's recommenders.... my experiences with him have always been positive and while I stand by them, @njny7621seems to have had a honestly inexcusable display of behavior from him. I feel badly for njny, but also for gregbig - he might have been having a bad day, or might have just had a really bad experience with someone else, but no excuses - an apology is owed.
  3. My mom died in May of 2020 at the age of 96. Her decline from good health was rapid but I was not allowed to visit her (Covid restrictions) until her very final days.... so my mental image jumps from a person of good health to a dying woman with nothing in between. I also realized that she could have been 196 and it would still feel painful.
  4. agreed with apologies - actually i thought this thread WAS "political", haha
  5. Moderator note & edited: No politics here @TumYum or he thread gets moved.
  6. as i said, the New York Post has zero credibility here in NYC (it is called a "scandal sheet") and the only place/time I have ever seen it referred to is on this site, curiously enough. 2020 - Print circulation 162,478 vs. 2016 print circulation 230,634 not that it even really matters in this case!
  7. The NY Post has zero credibility here in NYC - the only place I have ever seen it referred to is.... well, on this site (no surprise....)
  8. agreed.... when it comes to the point of a member calling another member "dumb" because of a disagreement, the thread has outlived its purpose

    ReyJ in Newark

bizarre he contacted me via RM, when i asked him his rate he said it depends on what i want.... i hate that so i went silent and he later came back with $200/hr but that pic thing gives me a really bad feeling too
  10. Yes it is true.... I have lived for a few years in Manila... and the amount of American inspired fast food products that are consumed on a regular basis is astounding.... particularly when compared to other Southeast Asian nations.
  11. No. Working out has as much to do -- probably much more actually -- with health and longevity as it does with physical appearance. Appearance may be a marketing tool ("Look Better Naked" was the slogan at one of the gyms I worked out at) but people who take it serious see quantifiable improvements in their overall health regardless of changes in their appearance.
  12. Interesting posting and I very much agree with you, except for the fact that at the same time the "fitness craze" takes deeper and deeper roots, and the availability of healthier lifestyle options are more and more widely available. I wonder how much of this is an American thing, really. When I travel the world, I rarely encounter such obvious displays of widespread obesity and wonder why.... but then I travel to the Philippines, long under the overt and covert influence of the USA, and encounter obesity. Makes one wonder.

  15. You raise a good point here and one that I must confess little understanding of. Standing at 5'10" and 165 lbs., (now that I have resumed my pre-COVID weight, haha) obesity is not an issue for me and when I think about "food choices" it may mean something very different from: for example, how to maximize nutrients while minimizing calories, how to avoid certain obnoxious ingredients, and so on. However, I fear that for some "food choices" may have more profound health effects: the obese whose very lives are threatened by their weight must encounter a very different set of dynamics, for example. True?
  16. One thing I noticed in common between my alcoholic and my obese friend is that they would never display "excessive" bheavior(s) in public Over indulgence was always a very private ritual. Be it the bottle or the box of Krispy Kremes, the putting on the feed bag was never done in public spaces.
  17. .... or, in my friend's case, not at all....

    The Seventh Seal

Fresh my successful discovery of Come and See in the Criterion Collection, I happened upon in the same venue a film that I had not seen since I pounded the sidewalks of New Haven as an undergrad. The Seventh Seal. Much parodied, and probably impossible to release today, the Seventh Seal puzzled me even more now than years ago. I see it as a struggle with nothingness.... with anxiety over Catholicism.... over the existence of God. All set in some chillingly colorful black-and-white scenes that confuse and confound. Available on youtube: The Seventh Seal
  19. This puzzles me. Friend #1.... professional, "successful", etc. alcoholic, had to do in-patient detox, then in-patient rehab. Managed to stay sober for a year or so, but I just received a text from him that he had a "relapse" and is "at a detox". Friend #2.... highly paid attorney, "successful", etc. morbidly obese, had some sort of gastric surgery a few years back, has permanently ruined knees and hips, lost weight, regained it... are these two behaviors similar? why do people make bad choices.... or is it something that i do not understand - some sort of "demon" deep inside that forces people to do things .... or do they not even understand the consequences of their choices. i am troubled. and i cannot even begin to understand the causes here. some say they are different: one can live without alcohol but not without food.... but what about excess as the common denominator. i am confused.
  20. PlanetRomeo is totally legit - and this "subsidiary" of it should be the same I have never used it in the US but in southeast asia it reigns supreme!
  21. While browsing through the Criterion Collection, I came across this film (with a particularly unpromising title) that I had absolutely never heard of. (I later learned that the title is extremely deliberate.... a reference to a passage in the book of Revelations.... It is more than 2 hours long, so I checked it out a bit before committing. found this on the rogerebert web site: It's said that you can't make an effective anti-war film because war by its nature is exciting, and the end of the film belongs to the survivors. No one would ever make the mistake of saying that about Elem Klimov's "Come and See." This 1985 film from Russia is one of the most devastating films ever about anything, and in it, the survivors must envy the dead. Sunggled up in the January cold to watch it. One the most engrossing (overused word) films I have ever watched. Available full length on youtube. If you can .... watch it. Come and See
