It’s something to consider and I’ll wait and see if they offer some type of event. Secrets may not be around much longer considering the gentrification of the neighborhood caused by the DC United stadium. The last time I spoke to the owner some months ago he wasn’t sure what impact there would be on his business. Rents will skyrocket and developers are making big plans for the area. Plus having been in business for decades I’d speculate retirement is looking pretty good right now. It’s doubtful the DC City Council will help out relocating the venue like they did when the baseball stadium displaced the business last time. Jim Graham spearheaded that effort and he’s seriously dead and there’s no gay members on the council now. The reason Secrets is strict about touching and fraternization is due to the ABC enforcement issues. When Secrets reopened in their current location the Alcohol Beverage Control officials sent undercover agents to monitor behavior. They found several violations related to touching and the like. The ABC board suspended their liquor license and timed that to happen over Gay Pride weekend. Thus Secrets lost out on major business. I’m not sure they were able to appeal in time or not to but it was a big issue for the owner at the time. Who can blame him for protecting his investment and is strict about touching and fraternization. I’d do the same if it were my business.
