It's disappointing that you can't get photos or names of the staff at these spots. Hush Manhattan at least has pictures of the guys and you can schedule with them specifically for body grooming and some for massage.

So - the Times Square Spa website seems to be really problematic. I'm clicking around and nothing seems to work. There are no photos of the therapists and no way to book online. What's the protocol? Do you just call to book or go there as a walk-in? I'm a bit confused.

It's kind of you to be so compassionate. Massage is a tough business - it's hard on the body and, like any self-run business, if you don't work, you don't get paid. No paid vacations or sick days. I def understand how hard it is. My first encounters with him were 10 years ago. My most recent - in a non-massage setting - was about 8 months ago so if he's in a bad space, he's been in that bad space for over a decade. That said, I enjoyed the massage itself. He does good work physically and my body felt good. But he made me uncomfortable.

I really found him to be a tricky personality. Something happened during the massage which he - very subtly - tried to blame me for. I went back a 2nd time, thinking I'd misunderstood our interaction but he was just as unpleasant the 2nd time. I'll never go back.

A professional masseur (not a rub&tug guy) will sometimes ask you to book online, using your credit card to secure the spot. This way if you don't show up, he hasn't lost money. I think this is reasonable and it's standard practice at Spas and Salons. With a small, private business, masseurs sometimes get stiffed (no pun intended) by flaky clients. I'm happy to comply when I know it's a professional situation. I've never been asked anything weird, though I know others who have.

I prefer seeing a masseur privately. They make better money so you generally get a better quality massage. If you're looking for a spa experience, it's hard to get the best if you want it to include any sensuality. I've sound the spas around NYC generally lacking.

This is a great thread. I think it's important to consider that professional massage therapists are licensed in most states. Compromising them by answering questions - ESPECIALLY if they work in a spa or salon - is not what this group seems to be about. Full disclosure: I'm a newbie and still learning how to comment and interact so as not to endanger anyone or make them feel unsafe. I'm so grateful for this group. Since Masseurfinder wrecked the site by taking away user-generated reviews, there's nowhere else to get honest feedback. I often check in with my massage therapist the day before because there are some who don't confirm. However, if you aren't getting a response at 9 in the morning, that could be for any number of reasons. It's possible that your MT 1. might not be awake yet 2. might be with another client And that's just three reasons I can think of off the top of my head. What I mean by "legit" is that MasseurFinder is trying to eliminate as many red flags as possible and they changed significantly after Fosta-Sesta went into effect. Fosta-Sesta is the same reason Craigslist Personals disappeared. A masseur on MasseurFinder can post as many pictures as possible but cannot post shirtless or suggestive photos. The site is very strict about it and about the language used in both reviews and masseur ads.
