My cats have never been in a car or flown except when they were newborn. Is flying cats safe? Is there an affordable private plane service that takes cats on the plane?

I apologize if this has been discussed before. I am about to undertake a long distance move. I have questions for anyone with experience in these matters. I have two cats so I'll drive. It's about a 14 hour drive. I'll probably stop for the night. Any thoughts on traveling with cats? My furniture will arrive about two weeks after me. Should I just buy an air mattress and stay on it or is there something more comfortable? I'll probably buy a new tv to have entertainment. Any other thoughts or advice? Thanks.
