(Straight Up originally so my understanding is I can post here.) If you are a grumpy curmudgeon with a set worldview and inflexible ideas about sexuality than you might want to skip it. That said, I was surprised how much I liked this unique movie. The main character, a 20 something software coder, is played by the writer/director James Sweeney, the young fellow pictured. The dialogue is pretty clever and keeps on spinning from beginning until the end. The two leads are great, and the rest of the cast including Randall Park are also good. On Netflix.

The movie is now on HBO. A terrible situation. Kudos to Canada for not looking away. Kudos to the LGBTQ activists working over there with few resources or support.

I was at a lesser film festival and he walked in during a break. The place was full. He stared up at the crowd and the crowd stared back. It was crickets. He gave a beleaguered wave, as if "yes, it's me" He and his small entourage proceeded to their seats. He plunked down and stared at his phone. It's a cruel world. I felt for him and wish him the best. Hard to imagine having his kind of money, yet his life seems a bit messy. I hope he finds a brighter future.
