As for your first name and ‘Mr.,’ bostonman, when I was growing up I was not permitted to call any adult anything without a Mr. or Miss. It was always “Mr. Jones,” or if I couldn’t pronounce their last name, it’d be “Miss Shirley.” My parents were very strict about that. To this day I call my friend’s parents Mr or Mrs. [last name] and was appalled when I heard a group of his son’s friends, all around 14–16 years old, refer to my friend as “Daryl,” not “Mr. Smith.” My friend shrugged and said it’s the times we’re in.

Yes, OP, I’ve noticed an uptick in my experience. The last two guys I hired asked me to put the cash on the table before we began. One was worth it, one was not. As someone else has said, though, usually the ones that ask are not worth it. On a side note, I make sure they count it out in front of me. I had one guy I paid his full fee, left, and he texted me shortly after that I shorted him $40. Bullshit.
