I could care less what they think. In fact, I am frequently at a hotel in LA and sometimes introduce my weekend special friend to the desk folks, whom I’ve gotten to know. They love it and the breakfast servers are always complimenting my good taste!

I was there in 2001 and loved it. Novy Svet is a particularly charming district. Although very attractive for the most part, I found the Czechs to be a relatively standoffish lot, similar to the Hungarians and the Finns.

The quality of providers has declined compared to 10 or 20 years ago. Lots of ugly beards and beer bellies. I’m far more fit than many of them. The ones that hit the gym are largely freakish looking because of steroids. And the number of fakes these days...too many to chronicle. Is this the Grindr effect?

OTOH, some clients might prefer it a little sweaty.

I’m reading a book about the origins of WWI, and the diplomacy did seem more civilized in those days, although frequently wrong-headed, as events later confirmed. Austria-Hungary was actually thriving economically because of the imperial free trade regime. Cisleithania, the German part, had its own government, as did Transleithania, the Hungarian part, which was much more aggressive than the former in trying to impose Magyarization on the Slavs. The only imperial functions were defense and foreign affairs.
