I think you've nailed it: if there's no one locally who really appeals to me, has decent reviews, etc. I lose interest. Also, I have a lot less interest in hosting these days so that limits the options.

I am surprised to hear an escort say he likes to voice verify with a phone call. I'd love to do this when I hire. I rarely ask anymore though. I think many providers see it as an imposition. But then again in the last two weeks I've had two guys flake on me that I tried to hire. So maybe it's only the flakes that see it that way. As you say, comes with the territory.

When I was in high school, nobody in gym class work a jock...except some of the jocks, the actual, sports-playing athletes. I guess they wore them for practice and games and just thought it was natural to wear it for gym class.
