Alcohol hand rub is ok to use and poses no risk for antimicrobial resistance since the mechanism of microbial activation is through the alcohol itself. The key is how you apply it. Get one or two full squeezes or pumps to coat your whole palm, and rub both hands together including the palms, back of hands, fingers (sides and tips), and wrists. Don’t stop rubbing until your hands are dry. This is how we do it in our hospital.
