  1. I was too old for it but good thread!!! I was surprised to find out that the actor who played Tyrone the pimp on the soap "All My Children" was on "Sesame Street".
  2. Good reply! ;-)))
  3. I'm familiar with that. In fact sometimes, often, I'll say that instead of refrigerator. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icebox
  4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelvinator Not familiar with it. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ When I hear Kelvin I think of the temperature. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelvin
  5. I read that a woman in Sweden wanted to have her children's names tattooed on her. Nova - daughter, Kevin - son. However Kevin was misspelled Kelvin. It was too expensive to have it corrected so she had her son's name legally changed to Kelvin.

    Love Cecil

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cecil_Beaton Thank-you! I was unfamiliar with him.
  7. Back in the early 1960s my father worked for awhile in NYC. He told me one time when he went to the dry cleaners - I forget now whether Brooklyn or the Bronx - he could not understand them because of their accent and left. These were ordinary white people and not immigrants.
  8. Remember I'm a dinosaur! I have a Diamond Jubilee portrait of Queen Victoria hanging in my apartment.
  9. When I hear that song I can't help but think of this
  10. Thanks! I know her voice but not her face.
  11. I voted for both. I especially like Belami.
  12. THANK-YOU! Wonderful! Beautiful!
  13. Don't you like HM the Queen? I think that she is a grand old lady! I wish her a long and healthy life!
  14. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aretha_Franklin Thank-you!
  15. Not everyone is left-handed nor gay but it is normal and natural for those who are.
  16. Forgive my ignorance but who is she? When I saw the thread title my first thought was of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
  17. I know! I like to impress them; I have Mormon roots. When the missionaries came to England in the 1840s there was a widow woman with two grown daughters with families of their own. The widow woman - my great great great great grandmother - she joined the church and came to Nauvoo, Illinois where the church headquarters was then. In 1847 she died in Iowa when the Mormons were going to Utah.
  18. The custom is to ring the Angelus bells 3x each day. 6AM, Noon, 6PM. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angelus
  19. Just by my first name. But my sister had some strange parenting ideas. At least for the first child anytime someone got a gift she thought her daughter should too. I was only six years older than my niece. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ My mother sometimes overindulged my sister. My maternal grandmother lived with us. She had twin beds in her bedroom. Several years after my sister's three children were born one day when I came home after school I went to my bedroom and the furniture was gone. My mother had given it to my sister. For several years I slept in the twin bed in my grandmother's room.
  20. Working in bar would one really want to drink? In my teens I worked at a donut shop. My mother being a diabetic was strict with my diet so I thought now here's my chance to indulge. That soon wore off.
  21. I have a niece and nephew in their 50s. I had another niece but she died a couple of years ago. None have children. I wanted to be called "Uncle" but my sister would not allow it.
  22. In the recent show there was a guy wearing a straight jacket, hanging upset down over alligators. The judges and host and audience were acting like they were all terrified for him. I don't watch the show live but several days later on Hulu. If anything had gone wrong the segment would not have been aired and it would have been all over the news. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ One act that I was rooting for sadly didn't make it. The trampoline act Elijah and Tyler; the guy with the inflatable zebra.
  23. Right. I've wondered about that on the show. I think it's probably just a way of giving tips. Another topic for conversation might be sports.
  24. Age doesn't matter. Next time start up a simple conversation. Ask him about school. I'm not a drinker so I don't know but I watch the British soap opera "Coronation Street" and sometimes when a patron buys a drink and pays for it they'll say "And have one for yourself". Is that done here in the US? Might be a good opening move.
