If you make it very clear to him that you like to "rotate" a regular circle of guys (ie. keeping him regularly in the picture), this might be okay. Anything less tactful will sound very unprofessional.

Clearly more men have beards than, say, 10 years ago. It suits some men, not others. Generally big bodybuilders always look ok with it (though I prefer moustaches, Bronson style), but when you're small like me it can dwarf your pint-sized body!
