I have to disagree with Latbear's claim to the crown of social awkwardness and and shyness. The weekend is probably the last place you would ever see me except that I just decided to go and ended up meeting some very interesting people. Last year (I believe) at the pool party I plopped my middle aged ass next to Traveller North under an umbrella and just struck up a conversation. Through him I met several other people because he seemed to be royalty at the event, including a star, Tristan Baldwin. Of course, I was also lucky to already know AZDR who carted my ass from event to event and also seemed to know a substantial number of people. In my experience, you will go to the dinner and then be placed next to people so it is easy to strike up conversation. The next day is the pool party and all you have to do is shove a substantial number of deviled eggs down your mouth and drink. And then if you want (and you are not staying there already) you can go to the Canyon Club and drink some more (or not) and just relax. It is pretty easy. So come.

I found this to be an interesting article about all the conflicting motivations for the various actors in the Mary and Darnley episode.
