I agree. It's never occurred to me to sit around and wait for an escort to thank me and I've never received a thanks. I assume escorts are living their lives and are far too busy looking at texts, etc. from potential clients. I don't think this is good advice for the person asking. But the fact that someone dies doesn’t immediately raise in my mind the specter that someone is at fault and this death was nothing other than the sad result of human imperfection. The loss of life is sad, but it seems to me that an approach that routinely dismisses inherent risks, although good for news headline,s is unhealthy for society.

A just result, and he's lucky. The prosecutor wanted 15 years. His lawyers recommended 12-18 months (nice try, but no chance). He's contrite and sobbed at his sentencing. Setting everything up for serving less time because he's seen the error of his ways.

You don't say how long you've been there, which would make a difference to me. I worked at a company for a long time and towards the end I was bored. I should have left sooner and enjoyed new challenges as I built on my existing experience and expertise. Also the pay is often better for a new hire. I know some people who were bored with their job but were going to stick it out for ten more years until they could retire. I thought, wow, what if they die in the next year or so?
