Years ago, I received a call from the Travis County Health Dept ordering me to come into their offices and get tested for Syphilis. "WHAT?!?!" "One of your sex partners has contracted it and your sex partner gave us the names and numbers of all of his recent sexcapades." The health department likes to inform sex partners of the person infected with Syphilis so it doesn't get out of control in the area. How did the health department find out? All physicians must report certain STD cases to the county health department. That's how the health department gets involved. She called me late on Friday and waaaaaaaay to late for me to get into see my physician. But, the thing is...I had a very hot date with the hottest bottom in all of TX. And, this date was already reschedule once. I debated for a half second whether to pump him full of my cum (a four day load I had been saving), or, risk being labeled unclean and having not gotten the chance to pump him ever. I walked into his house with my overnight bag. He closed the door and I dropped my bag to the floor. I stood there and held him feeling his pretty little bubble ass in my hands. I looked him in the eyes and told him about the phone call. A week later, my physician informed me that I didn't have Syphilis. I didn't have to get the remaining very painful shots in my ass.

Before I met my partner, I played the field a lot. My screen name had emoji's in them. One man emoji and then a 'plus' sign, followed by another man emoji followed by an equal sign and a smiley face. It was supposed to indicate Man plus Man equals a smiley face. The plus was always misunderstood to be an HIV positive sign. And, you wouldn't believe how many guys with an HIV NEG profile confessed that they were really positive. About a third indicated they were positive after I volunteered that I was on Prep. WTF? Positive status doesn't bother me. But, the lying to others who are NEG and not on Prep did bother me. So, be the fuck careful out there. Don't believe anyone.

And this whole notion that having HIV is no big deal is BS. Sure SOME people live with it. BUT
you're unambiguously healthier without it. And there is more than one strain , and not every one reacts well to and/or can afford the various medications.

Always assume the worst and behave accordingly. What a sexual partner tells you is irrelevant.

Thanks for the warning. I'm on PReP and get tested for STI's regularly - and have received as many vaccinations as you can get (Hep, HPV, etc). I am vigilant about my PReP schedule - and generally assume that most people are positive and proceed accordingly.
 
I worry a bit on the forum about stigmatizing people who are HIV positive, when so many of my friends and associates (and sex workers I know) are taking their meds and remain undetectable. My take on it is - if you're hiring - and that is a big concern for you - get on PReP. That way, no matter what they are doing, you're covered on your end from an HIV perspective (STI's - and the level of risk of you choose in your activities related to STI's - is a separate matter). As someone relatively new here, I notice a lot of anxiety surrounding escorts and HIV status rather than other STI's... I was around for the plague - so I get it. But - I think it's important to take responsibility for your own sexual health (as much as you can) - and not look to anyone to "disclose" or "not disclose" to you.

Well, beside being completely wrong there are many of the red states that completely agree with you. So there is that. However they also would love to give you the same punishment for gay sex as well. Interesting shared values.
