@nycman @Unicorn I went out and brought the Lidocaine patches and it had no effect. So late Saturday night I called an ambulance and insisted she go to the hospital. It turns out she has a UTI ! That can cause severe pain in the lower back and lead to Sepsis rather quickly. She is in the hospital now taking IV antibiotics.

It's the base of her back to her right buttock. She didn't fall and doesn't know how it happened. Maybe the way she slept?

I did ask for one yesterday. The social worker said there are none available. She will try to pull one from someone else younger next week, She said many people in their 60's are ok but want an aide to do their housework.

Dear All, can anyone advise pain relief for an 82-year-old woman who strained her lower back. This happened to my aunt 2 days ago and I called EMS and she refuses to go to a hospital. The EMT's said it is not a hip fracture. She can move her legs but the pain is in her lower back and radiates to her buttock. I have been giving her Tylenol 3 and an advil every 6 hours and applying ben gay. It relieves her pain but not enough. I have to take her to the bathroom and stuck at her home indefinitely since no one else wants to do it. The EMT's said they would not take her if she refuses. Does anyone know of a pain patch or something like that?

Interesting that more than half of all nursing home resident have not received a booster shot this winter despite the fact that the vast majority of deaths are among seniors. I don't have diabetes yet but I was pre-diabetec. The doctor told me to eat beans and it definitely helped me. I buy kidney beans and wash off the sauce (especially if it's Goya). Then I mashed them into a spread and add a little olive oil to give it some moisture, then refrigerate. Then I spread it on whole wheat toast and a little mayo and it actually makes a pretty good sandwich. You can add lettuce and tomatoes too. It lowered my level to near normal.

I'm not sure if you guys are aware, but 5-10 year Treasury TIPS currently pay a "real" or "fixed rate" of 1.25%-1.30% plus the inflation rate. I say currently because the bond market decides what the fixed rate is and it changes all the time. IMPORTANTLY, these bonds will fluctuate in bond price value until they reach maturity, at which time the fixed rate plus the CPI will be credited in full but in the meantime there will be price fluctuations in the par value (not the case with Savings Bonds). ALSO important is that you should buy these bonds at auction or the most recent auction. There's a reason for that but it's too complicated to go into. In SUMMATION, if you buy a 5 year TIPS at the next auction and the market decides to buy these bonds at a fixed rate of say 1.25%, then in 5 years you will get the 1.25% yearly PLUS the CPI adjustment yearly at maturity. AGAIN, these bonds fluctuate in value so if you don't hold them to maturity you could have a problem.

Depends on the interest rate you would have paid. Some car companies are still offering 0.9% interest through their finance arm. But it's certainly up to you if, for example, you don't want to be bothered with monthly payments.

Good news. People don't know many things about Baldwin's negligence in this matter.
